There's a real feeling of malaise around Carlisle at the moment, what with the dire state of their ground, crowd trouble and being virtually relegated already. We have a history of doing favours for teams on terrible runs, though, and that combined with a 'must win game' isn't leaving me with much optimism... We would like 50 points to be certain. That's 15 over 16 matches. Blaming outside influences for your level of optimism is the sort of fatalistic irresponsibility that leaves one pessimistic by default. You can choose to be more optimistic, regardless of circumstances. The prospects are even good. We are 4 points behind my target for us, but I feel we can catch up to 13th by the end of the season

Even I was starting to feel a bit depressed listening to this. Paul Simpson previews Saturday's game:

2:30 Blames the players. Super. Rushing injuries is never good. They had no game Tuesday, but at this stage of the season our squad will have 90 minutes in them twice a week.

Encouraging to hear Simpson say that we play quite direct up to Taylor, because that's not actually true is it? Of course there's the odd ball over the top, but it's more been the winger/no.10 types behind launching attacks with runs and one-twos than it has been hoofball.

Erm, well. It's not the entirety of our attacking but I wouldn't say it's untrue, either.

The Pompey fans I watched with at Fratton Park commented on it fair amount. "I thought you'd just be lumping it up to the striker but you're playing it around a bit" - hardly the highest praise maybe but still! I did explain that our target man was out injured, otherwise we probably would be a lot more.

Almost as if there's middle ground between going full Steve EVANS and Tiki Taka.

I think we have both tactics up our sleeves. We can play on the ground well and we can go direct. Harris just needs find the right balance of when to use which approach.

I think it comes down to the players more than Harris. Knowing what to do and when to do it. We are guilty of taking extra touches instead of first time cross, shooting when a pass/cross would be better. All little things but if enough players are making the same mistakes it becomes a big problem.

He can get it right like the cross for Taylor at Shrewsbury but more often than not his final decision lets him/us down.
