I started this thread so let me finish. Bonner was sacked because none of us wanted our relegation fight to go down to the last day. I'm not surprised it's gone down to the last day because using my method it became Monk 8 points Bonner 8 points! All Gary has to do is match Mark's one point against Port Vale and we have another last day escape.
Was there any advantage then in replacing Bonner? I'd say "yes" because we've got money from Millwall to pay for a long contract for Mr. Monk. That could be very exciting - or we could get relegated tomorrow. That's why football's the wonderful game.

This is an odd post given that you think that replacing Bonner was the right thing to do.
But I'll bite.
Lincoln & Reading aside, Monk has done an OK job in a very difficult situation. We're competitive in most games and games we've lost have been fine margins. Our worst game (apart from Lincoln and Reading) was Bristol. And with hindsight, we were completely and utterly robbed of at least a point in that game.
I'm not going to judge Monk (unlike those crazies who wanted him sacked after 3 games....) until he's had a chance to build a squad - whether that's in League 1 or League 2. Frankly, he's had to work with a completely unbalanced squad that Bonner built and Lyle Taylor, who clearly only wanted to play for Harris. He's also had some bad luck go against him - the illness in the camp for Wycombe and, of course, Chris GBH Martin.
All things considered, getting a point against Wycombe was a superb result. I have read their forum and their fans think it was one of their best displays of the season. So the fact we nearly won it shows that he's doing well with what he has.
The Bonner vs Harris comparisons were understandable and justified, they were working with the same squad until late Jan. There is no point comparing Bonner to Monk - too many variables.

I love Mark Bonner.
But talking about him now is pointless. Football moves on, we've moved on and no doubt he's moved on. He'll get another job and, when he does, I will genuinely wish him well.
But right now we have another manager and conversations about the guy in a United context are pointless. Everyone's focus needs to be on Port Vale and, if we can get a result, how we build afterwards.

We should have a good chance to settle this Bonner v Monk debate tomorrow. I assume Bonner is going to be in charge of Vale tomorrow?
