I know it's sort of a cliché that the young homegrown player wins these kind of awards by default when the team is rubbish but he's genuinely played well rather than just being the least worst player. I do sort of wish he wasn't our best player (and we sent him to some backwater midlands dirge) though.

I think he did - Ok, I only saw a couple of games but in Crawley and Blackpool he was average IMO. A couple of good things (but then most players do) but I was wondering where the hype was coming from. That said, I would be hard pushed to pick a suitable PotM

Don't loan him out. He's well up to it. Have him on the bench if he needs a rest. I think he's gonna be a star. Why should other clubs have the benefit of him. It's not like he'll be in a team of youngsters and burn out (as happened in the past in the 80's).

We have others with more experience who can play in his position. He's young so should have only limited time in the first team really. We need to build him up to this level, so experience elsewhere would be best for both parties. .... And there will be people on this board who agree wholeheartedly with the above...

Has anyone actually suggested sending him out on loan? Feels like people are arguing with themselves here!

Being young is irrelevant - different league I know but Lamal at 16 was good enough to start for Barca and Spain. Plenty of young players are good enough. If he was banging in a goal a game I don't care how old he is, play him every week!

If he is good enough we play him it’s as simple as that , it’s not like we have a full squad of fit players . He brings energy and excitement to the team and can certainly be a game changer from the bench but he has earned his starts unlike some of the other so called regulars . I say keep him around the squad and we should be grateful to have a player who shows potential.

Obviously you're right Badders12 and cambsono. I was being tongue in cheek. There are a fair few people on this forum that have a strange belief that young players should be overprotected and underplayed. And regardless if they've shown they're capable at this level, they still think they should be loaned out elsewhere.
Really happy for Barton, thoroughly deserves player of the month. He's been a revelation. I think he could have a big impact for us this season.

There is obviously a structure in the club to get academy boys playing adult football as soon as they can cope with it. It looks to work for some of the lads as most won’t be able to play league 1 as there first adult game. We need to be careful we don’t prevent their first team opportunities by sending them all out on loan.

Yeah, not seeing anyone say we should loan out Barton.
Bennett, however, was the right decision.
How is this still a conversation to be salty about?

On other forums Martin can be found arguing about the Millennium Bug.

No-one has said we should loan out Barton, but given previous comments about up and coming young players who have impacted at this level (Benett and Njoku), it's not unrealistic that people may make these arguments.
In terms of first impressions, albeit in a different position, I don't see much difference at all between the energy, skill and effort that Bennett brought to the team and what Barton is bringing now.
If the consensus is keep him, then it looks like people are coming round to Monk's approach to young players compared with Bonner's (and Harris's). And that's a good thing.

Don't understand your digs at Bonner. The process worked for Darling and Bennett, and the foundations were established for Jobe. Njoku is being handled in a similar way to those players were with a gradual introduction so don't see a grand change in plan even if Barton has bucked the trend by bursting onto the scene.
