According to Wiki
Seasons 70-78 we had 46 games a season
78-80 we had 44
80-82 back to 46
82-84 was 42
84-88 back to 46
88-89 was 44
then 89 - 05 was 46 each
2015-2019 46 each
19-20 we played 37
played 46 in the last 3, plus these 4 up till Saturday.
someone else can do the math.

Wiki has those numbers wrong! Eg 78-84 were all 42 game seasons

I’ve tried to verify the 2000/1000 number and I’m struggling. Yes, I should get a life. But knowing that every season bar one (37 in covid 2019-20) we played an even number of games (of course) and that Bristol Rovers will be the fourth game of this season, how does the fourth game of this season get us an even number, never mind 2000 games (which I can’t tally). I’m being thick, no doubt, but if someone could explain, I’d be grateful! Brace yourselves, but the maths works. 70/71-77/78 and 84/85-04/05 and 14/15-18/19 and 20/21-22/23: 37 seasons at 46 games each season (23 home) 78/79-83/84: 6 seasons at 42 games each season (21 home) 19/20: COVID season 37 games (18 home) 23/24: 4 games by Saturday (3 home) 89/90: Fourth division playoffs: 3 games (1 home) 91/92: Second division playoffs: 2 games (1 home) Total games: (37x46) + (6x42) + 37 + 4 + 3 + 2 = 2,000 Home games: (37x23) + (6x21) + 18 + 3 + 1 + 1 = 1,000 I knew that maths A level would come in handy one day.

Thanks for the calculation. Those pesky play off games causing the sum to balance !

Which brings us very nicely back to one of the greatest moments our first league game at home to Lincoln (featuring Graham Taylor!) on 15th August 1970, exactly 53 years ago today. In the 2 shilling 'Special Issue' programme Bill Leivers wrote: "We have had to crawl to get into the league. Now we can walk and perhaps soon we will be able to run with the big boys". How very true. Interesting that Farcet's very own Rodney Slack will be one of the legends at Saturday's game as he was furious with Leivers at being released just before the League season started finding out about it in the paper. Time's a healer eh?

Another memory from that opening day is the Lincoln skinhead gang The Clan getting intercepted by the old Trinity Foot pub (demolished a few years back) on the A14. Lincoln police tipped off Cambs police chief superintendant Geoff Dear who in 'Operation Intercept' took eight Ford Escort police cars and a black Maria and a dozen or so officers to stop the coaches and search the boys on board. They found a wooden handle and thats about it and sent three coaches back to lincoln. The Hon Sec of the SC Harry Howe wrote a letter of thanks to Geoff Dear. Dear btw was from Peterborough and headed the investigation into Hillsborough and later became a Baron! Talk about a top cop.

I have some great photos of that, at the trinity foot, pity I've no clue how to post. I actually met one of the old skinheads, now in hes 70s, whilst on holiday in Greece, he told me the local paper in Lincoln tipped off Lincoln police, and when the 'clan' arrived back in Lincoln, they went to the newspaper headquarters and put the windows through. Btw, this guy had he's own yacht in the harbour.

Colin Meldrum equaliser 7 minutes from time if I'm not mistaken. Finished 1 1

I'm sure a few days later I went to Layer Rd Colchester and we got thumped 5 0 in the league Cup. Remember the old wooden stand there behind the goal and them on the left and the U's fans on the right. They always seem to beat us on Friday nights there

The same Dear that was head of a squad in the West Midlands that was investigated and shut down, after evidence of serious abuses by officers were found. Over 60 convictions from the same squad were deemed to be unsafe and quashed. He was also investigated by the IPCC over Hillsborough and later opposed the same sex marriage bill.

Greatest moment for me was the last minute win at Lancaster and the way that the club dealt with our pitch invading trouble makers!

They always seem to beat us on Friday nights there …apart from that great Friday night in the late 70s when we beat them 1-0 with an absolute corker from Spriggs. It was my first ever away game and even featured on Grandstand the following day as we had dented their 100% home record.
