If Bennett were to eventually get a run on the wing and turned out not to be very good at it, how many outings do you think it would take for you to accept it? Denial Anger Depression Bargaining <---- You are here Acceptance

Rossi is better than Okedina. Just been unfortunate with injuries. But my controversial take is that if yesterday's performance is anything to go by, I want Gibbons to start ahead of Bennett. BUT want Bennett to finally get his chance on the right wing. If we do that, we'll stay up. Not quite sure there is enough evidence to suggest Rossi is better than any of the CB’s tbh. My main memory of him is that dreadful air kick which led to Derby taking the lead at the Abbey. Obviously started games before and after that, but I can’t honestly remember his performances. Stevens was marauding down the wing at one point last night (according to Jonno) so Bennett must be next in line.

So maybe a compromise, we could send Lennett to Walsall for a six month loan to play as a right midfielder.

Whatever happens we need to improve recruitment and also ability to develop players. Our team is full of older journeyman players with no breakthrough for younger talent. Yeah, and we put our youngsters in and get relegated... then what? Journeyman - we have a very strong defence, mainly down to Andrew, Morro and RB. Taylor has looked very good. Not many teams blood lots of youngsters. Ok, I count LB as one but what about Simper & Worman, hardly set the world alight. Taken my post out of context haven’t you. Also youngsters = relegation is a very simplistic argument. Sure don’t throw them all in now but plan to use if/when safety is secured. The Academy is about developing players for the future. Going into next season it would be nice to see homegrown talent being nurtured and given a chance alongside some of the older players. RB and Morro are solid but lack pace as a pairing. If Taylor stays thats great but have a feeling he will move. A lot of players are out of contract at end of season so don’t discount young prospects as part of the squad build.

The bottom line about blooding youngsters is they have to earn their place and be better than what else is available. Granted, a safe and secure place in the table is critical to being able to give youngsters a chance, even now we aren't in that position.
McConnell is one who was breaking into the squad before he suffered an injury, we have to trust the judgment of Harris, Corr and Betsy to develop our youngsters appropriately for their current skillsets and potential. Lennett aside, none of our younger players has even had a loan spell to a League 2 club yet, so why do you think they are ready for the intensity of league 1?

McConnell is one who was breaking into the squad before he suffered an injury Was he? He flirted with it perhaps like Njoku. But if you look at his actual opportunities he was given they were very limited and to me it never seemed like Bonner was keen on giving him any more any time soon. Ultimately its difficult, keeping our place in League 1 is the priority. At the same time the general consensus is that this crop of young players is the best we've had for a long time. The few opportunities they do get are usually limited to the B team reserve trophy, and the very limited odd cameo but by all accounts the players who have had those first team opportunities (McConnell, Njoku, Yearn) have all done an alright job. Njoku especially, feel like it's a shame we didn't see more of him in January and hope he doesn't see it as a kick in the teeth. I'm just like every other supporter I really want to see our own out there doing well for us. The crucial thing is these kids need to play, rotting on the bench or just in the stands aren't going to do them any good. Until Harris deems them ready they need to be out on loan. Hopefully next season they can be all fit and we can start seeing some of them make the step up to getting loans in league 2.

Never said throw the youngsters in now - I was talking about moving forward with safety secured. Interestingly Bennett got some mins before he went on loan to Walsall. Could see the same happening here with one or two others. Maybe a pathway to getting a couple out to League Two clubs. I think Jobe at Gateshead is getting closer - maybe with a good preseason into next season he might be around first team squad.

There were some who wanted us to accept our relegation last season in March and start playing our youngsters as preparation for this season in L2 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It's difficult, and it's a balance. There's lots to be gained but also we're a club that has been in a perilous position these past two seasons. We'd undoubtedly have seen much more of certain players last season (& this) were it not for league position & injuries at unfortunate times.
This time round I imagine we'll be realistically if not mathematically safe with relative comfort, so I'd expect some minutes in the final 5 games or so.

Once we are mathematically safe we will likely see a bit more of Njoku, Mcconnell, Simper etc.
Just before Covid curtailed our season, Bonner's plan was to start blooding the youth players at the time as it was a no brainier, I suspect we will do the same if everything goes well.

Always find the term 'Journeyman' weird.
I would have loved to have been good enough to reach league football 'journeyman' status for a decade of my life.
In terms of the first team, it's irrelevant. It's about whether they provide good impact on the pitch and have a good attitude of it. Also, you want to be the team that gets the best out of that player.
