Jack Lankester is a really frustrating player for me. Clearly talented in bursts but gives the ball away far too easy, his passing is inconsistent at best and he commits too many unnecessary fouls. More than anything I just want players in this team who can string more than three passes together in the other team's half. You could be describing Cousins or Digby with that. I see improvement in Lankester though, he's at the right age where he should now start fulfilling that potential. Fits in with the profile of player(s) I want to see us sign. I don’t see any further improvement in Cousins. As another poster said, we already have Digby who is more reliable fitness wise and has the added benefit of being on contract and flexible regarding positions. I wouldn’t have a major problem with offering Cousins a new deal (Personally I’d look to sign a younger version with potential) But I would be a little miffed if we’re keeping Cousins and binning off the likes of Lankester.

Cousins went through his worst patch for us when we were at our worst - post-Harris, pre International break. I feel like he's been scapegoated for that awful patch when a lot of players were just as awful.
Aside from that he's done pretty well for us. I'd be surprised if we didn't offer him a contract.

More than anything I just want a squad next year who can string more than three passes together in the other team's half. Jeez, it's good to be ambitious but lets try to keep the dreams a little realistic. Two?

The way Lankester flounces around the pitch, constantly on at the ref with a very poor attitude you’d expect he’d achieved a lot and was on his way to retirement. Without a massive attitude change, and significantly better goals and assists I fear this ‘potential’ that everyone quotes will never be fulfilled. He’s contracted next year and I’m not sure he’ll have many clubs after him (which says a lot) it will be make or break for his career I think.

If we stay up, Adam May would benefit from an August to January loan to a mid-lower L2 or top half Conference club.

He's got Walsall & subsequent handwringing poll written all over him.

Yeah, that's my feeling too. Shame, because he was a big part of the promotion squad.

May is very similar in many ways to Coulson and Taylor (Greg) Neither of those two were quite the same after suffering really bad injuries. A shame but hopefully May can still have a career in league 2.

I’m clinging to the hope that what he needs is regular game time in a team that uses its midfield as part of their attacking play instead of going over the top. He could return to be a more than useful squad player. But probably we should accept any offer that comes in for him.

He’s got the talent to be of use to us but given how his season has gone after getting back to fitness, it’s hard to see how he reestablishes himself as a genuine first pick here.
Sadly, I can see George Thomas being in exactly the same position this time next season. He’s going to be out for so long that our summer recruitment for midfield will have to be done on the basis that he basically doesn’t exist, then when he’s back in training, it will take him a while to be ready to play, then he’ll need game time to get back to match sharpness. Game time he’s unlikely to get with (hopefully) established first picks ahead of him.

I feel with May that if he's not given the ball, the game passes him by. Whereas if Thomas isn't given the ball, he goes and gets it. Hopefully that will mean Thomas won't have quite the same struggle back to form. It's sad to be thinking that May might be finished, he was a big part of the Bonner era, but his stats for this season are woeful.

Can't believe Cousins will be offered a contract. The bloke gifts the ball to the opposition in dangerous areas at least twice a match. If we go down the amount of times he's done that will be a big reason

My prediction for what Monk will do.
Release: Holden, Bennett, Dunk (:'{), Haunstrup, Kaikai, Taylor, Janneh, Okenabirhie Offer contracts to: Mannion, Morrison, Jobe, Gibbons, Brophy, Cousins, Kachunga Look to move on: May, Simper, L Bennett (if he won't sign an extension) + maybe one of Rossedina but probably not.
