I would drop Rennett, Andrew, Cousins, Stevens, Kachunga, Taylor, possibly Digby. Mannion Gibbons, Morro, Jubs, Brophy May Hoddle/Digby. Lennett Lancaster Bonne. Njoku This is, without doubt, one of the daftest line-ups I've ever seen suggested on here. We are going to have some fun on this one. With the greatest respect, we have lost 5 out of the last 6 so I think you will need to define daftness for your comment to stand up. Playing Brophy at left back is not ideal but is more a reflection of how bad I thought Andrew played on tuesday. Kachunga looked lost and Jack offers more behind the striker. Rennett and Morro is too slow so either Jubs or Rossi need to come in to quicken it up. Taylor was not good so may as well see what Brandon can do with a run in the team. I will credit Bonne that he puts effort in and friends I have who support Ipswich like him. Cousins needs to come out and May is the obvious replacement. Lennett has been our strongest attacking option and carries the ball well in the final third. He can get caught out which is fine when the centre is solid but not when you are giving away softies. He needs to be on the pitch so worth exploring. Again, we could of lost by 9-10 on tuesday so would be insanity to play the same starting 11. Where do you deviate?

Andrew had a tough game against a very good opposition player (4 goals & 6 assists for Sorensen this season) in a set-up that left him chronically exposed by Brophy (on Monk's orders to stay higher) but has been, in general, one of our better performers pretty consistently since before Christmas. Brophy can play LB in a pinch but he proved for us last season when he had to play a few games there that he's too weak and too positionally suspect to do it at this level. Complement that with Okedina playing on his wrong side & that side of the defence has the potential to be a gate swinging open, particularly if you're asking May or Hoddle(!) to be the midfielder in front of them, with Bonne(!!) the "winger" charged with offering further protection in an unfamiliar role for him. No beef with Okedina or Ibsen Rossi coming in because I think we do need more pace in this defence, but play them on the side they're natural or & have a more experienced full-back on. Bonne is not a wide forward & has rarely played there throughout his career. The flanks are about the only source of creativity in our team &, from his history & as well what I've seen of him since he's been here, I wouldn't have high hopes for Bonne delivering it from out there. Likewise Bennett on the other side has never played in that position at this level (& only a handful of times in the division below while on loan). He's decent with the ball & likes to carry it, but that's an easier thing done from deep when you're coming onto the play rather than receiving it with your back to goal as the wide players often have to in our team. Njoku up top by himself... please... He's keen but there's more to forward play at this level than just running around. He'd need to compete physically in that role at times, regardless of what our intended style of play is, & there is simply no way he'll be able to.

Having reflected on Tuesday night's experience at Sincil Bank, I have found enough positives to banish the despair/anger and return my level of optimism/pessimism for Saturday's game to where it was a week ago - standard away day expectation of "We might get something from the game but we'll probably have to get a hell of a performance from everyone for a win."
Tuesday was part of a steep learning curve for our new Head Coach. I hope he's a quick learner. Over this season and last, those of us who've travelled had learned that we don't have the quality of players to play two up front against decent L1 teams, especially away from home and especially if the two are incapable of pressing like a Knibbs or Ahadme backed up by a Digbyesque effort from himself, Thomas or even Lankester and May at their best in the no 10 role. In retrospect, combining that with our ageing CB pairing suffering minimal protection feels like a trouncing waiting to happen.
Mates suggested that the turning point last season was the win at Port Vale. For myself, it was the 0-0 at Lincoln - the first time that we saw Morrison/Bennett link up with Lloyd Jones, protected by Digby and McGrandles and with Big Joe then Harvey Knibbs leading the press.
Mark Bonner had learned those lessons alongside us. I'm sure the issues were aired, especially by Barry Corr, but I hope Garry Monk has taken them onboard and is ready to adjust - that was my interpretation of his post-match interview. He was expecting more of the players and combinations than they were capable of delivering. I expect 4231 or even a Back 5 for the rest of our away fixtures and (looking at the opposition) our next 2 home games as well.
Cousins has been my main disappointment over recent weeks. The rest of the players have been pretty much "as advertised." Anyone who follows the forums knew that Lyle Taylor's goal potential was only available (injuries aside) because he can't/doesn't do the "lead the line" heading, hold-up and pressing role that Ahadme was signed for and he needs a partner. Like Okenabirhie, he'll score goals and maybe create a few if he's fed chances. As Wycombe fans have told us and we've seen already, he'll also fall over a lot and generally wind up opposition players and fans (as well as a fair number of home fans) with his antics and gamesmanship (cheating?).
So I expect the team for Reading will have to be little changed:
Stevens Gibbons Bennett Morrison Andrew Digby May Kaikai Lankester Brophy Taylor
With Liam Bennett getting an early run out in the second half.
By the time we get to Barnsley, Wigan and Blackpool, they'll have had 2 clear weeks to get Ahadme back and explore Okedina (or Andrew) in a back 3 and Liam Bennet released as a Wing Back (L or R). But for now it's a case of dig in and go again.

I'd love to know how many games Ibsen Rossi has actually been available for over his time here so far.

Although we need some extra impetus upfront, I’d prefer Ahadme and Okenabirhie get the extra 2 weeks recovery to return to the team for the Easter games. Although of course if they are on the bench on Saturday I’ll be shouting at Monk to get Ahadme on when we are trailing in the 65th minute.

Thoughts:
Referring to the fact that he analysed the squad's strengths and weaknesses before getting the job doesn't inspire confidence having been beaten 6-0 in his second game.
Didn't like the bit where he kept asking the interviewer what he would do in his situation. Aside from feeling a bit dickish in general, it also gave the impression that he doesn't really know what to do himself...
He's obviously a character who doesn't particularly relish the media side of the job. I hope he's a better communicator when he's dealing with the players, as the pre/post-match stuff hasn't been particularly inspiring so far.

Jubs has only had one training session and Monk says Zeno has had a knock so we might not get any changes at CB unfortunately.
Given the above, I’d go for:
Mannion
Lennett Rennett Morro Andrew
KaiKai May Digby Brophy
Lanks
Taylor
As much as I’d like to boot most of them out for the kids, it’s a big game to chuck a Hoddle or Yearn in. No one could really complain if they were dropped though.
Don’t think Simper is ready either or I’d potentially consider a flatter central 3 with Simps and May the other side of Digger.
Have to say, Digby has been very poor of late and is lucky there aren’t many other options. He looks like he needs a rest but also he looks like he needs someone competent next to him and to be utilised properly.
He needs a playmaker next to him so he can focus on disrupting play and winning second balls.
Regardless, I think the chances of match abandoned are quite high on this one.
