Welcome to the loony left. They will be letting out prisoners serving a fraction of their penance soon, can’t see that ending well. You daft bat. The proposal is to replace the current 10 week early release scheme with a scheme releasing prisoners that have served 40% of their sentence. All this means is someone with a 3 month sentence being released after 6 weeks instead of 10 weeks. Those with 6 month sentences will have to wait longer to be released under the proposals. As with the current system it will not apply to prisoners convicted of crimes involving violence, sex crimes, terrorism etc or anyone who is subject to a parole board decision. UK only has enough capacity for just under 90k prisoners and is already at capacity. This scheme is intended to free up more space for those committing serious crimes. The previous government was forced to house prisoners in police cells. Can't see Labour's approach being much different from the previous governments policy but I guess they have done the maths and this frees up some capacity. The elephant in the room is that more investment is needed in all our public services but that isn't on the agenda. Tough decisions and all that.. Am guessing btb that you share the Labour government's burning passion not to raise taxes to pay for investment.

Call me a bigot all you like - water off a ducks back. I could quite as easily call you an anti-semitic misogynist being on the left. The clear difference here is that you've said plenty of actually bigoted things, but no one has said anything even hinting at antisemitism until your weird post. Might it be that many people are scared to voice their opinions on the matter, knowing how vicious the trans lobby can be? Livelihoods can be lost for thinking the "wrong way"... No. You clearly have no difficulty voicing your opinion on how trans people don't deserve human rights, and it's one echoed very loudly by mainstream media, people in power, and lots and lots of simple folk like you that will spout it at any opportunity even if it's completely irrelevant. If you think the "trans lobby" is vicious, have you seen what actual trans people have to contend with? They are the group with the highest likelihood of being sexually assaulted. Suicide figures are through the roof. The government themselves literally ordered schools to out them to their parents. And then they come on a message board to talk about their shared love of football and have some Very Nice People telling them they only exist to assault women in bathrooms? Nevermind the livelihoods of bigots. Have you ever, even once, considered the lives of vulnerable people that you would, what, erase, imprison, deny their very right to existence?

Agree with that, he's successfully backed himself into a corner and is thrashing wildly to fight his way out of it.

1. You did not “quote” Starmer
2. “Can't think of a single person in day to day life who is in agreement. Many on the left, undeniably, live in an echo chamber. If you only surround yourself with people who think exactly as you do is it any wonder you're shocked when you hear a dissenting opinion?”
Do you honestly not see the irony of these two statements written one after the other?
3. “Call me a bigot all you like - water off a ducks back. I could quite as easily call you an anti-semitic misogynist being on the left.”
Difference being, you have clearly and openly expressed bigoted views. Not a single left-leaning person on this thread has said anything remotely misogynistic or anti semitic. You want to call me a misogynist for my view on trans rights, but think it likely, if I shared some of my other strongly held beliefs, you’d call me a feminazi 🤷🏻♀️
4. “Might it be that many people are scared to voice their opinions on the matter, knowing how vicious the trans lobby can be? Livelihoods can be lost for thinking the "wrong way"...”
Most of that is online noise that is as disgusting and extreme from both sides. Threats of death, rape etc. None of it acceptable or helpful. And those who have lost jobs is because (as much as you don’t like it), being trans is a protected characteristic and those people pushed prolonged campaigns and bullying behaviours in the work place (research will prove this true, no one lost a job for simply stating “sex is real”). I tried to enter into reasoned, impersonal debate with you. You reacted disingenuously (ignoring fair and reasonable questions, made sweeping statements without providing proof or changing the argument when challenged) and you called me a “fucking idiot” for it…

What rights don't trans people have that everyone else has? Name a single one. Do you not think the suicide rates amongst trans people might have something to with the fact they're mentally ill? Why not treat it as such and hopefully prevent these people from taking their own lives. Erase? What on earth are you talking about? I hear that word thrown around a lot by trans supporters - what does it actually mean? Who's denying their right to existence? They quite obviously exist, I don't think anyone is denying that.

Misogyny too. Being gender critical is also protected, as far as I understand... If you think people can charge sex, then yes, you're a fucking idiot.

Rachel “um” Reeves “um”. Wonder how her “um” promises will “um” work out. Awful at answering questions.

Yeah maybe, but what she's actually said is more important than how she said it.
Labour should be judged on results. Just as the conservatives were. If it all turns out to be broken promises and lies they'll be called out on it.

What rights don't trans people have that everyone else has? Name a single one. You misunderstand. I'm not saying they don't currently have rights. I am saying you specifically are working to undermine and remove their rights. To freedom and equality, to freedom from discrimination, to safety, to recognition before the law. Y'know, the fundamental human rights? You have made arguments in this very thread that would remove those. I think suicide rates amongst trans people (and people in general) says more about systemic issues than it does about the individual health of a person. It's well understood in the field that you can build resilience and you can provide coping mechanisms, and you can adjust chemicals and hormones if necessary, but if you're fundamentally battling to even be recognised as deserving of existence, you're going to struggle. It's not just self-actualization and esteem; trans people often have fundamental physiological needs impacted because of people like you. You are. The right to existence is not the same thing as existence. If you can't even comprehend that gaping difference, I'm not surprised nuance is lost on you. Antisemitism isn't a left or right thing. At this point you're just throwing out (often unrelated) gotchas you've seen elsewhere without bothering to consider the answers. It's a bit rubbish of you, but I'm more interested in defending people that have to deal with this everyday than with correcting you personally. Do you know about the paradox of intolerance? You are acting as the perfect case study.

GAY PEOPLE. We’ve had this discussion. Sexual orientation does not have a biological or genetic marker, people identify as it and we believe them and recognise and protect their rights and safety under law because of that.

I remember when in order to foment right-wing dogma amongst football fans, you at least had to stand in the cold on Newmarket Road with some leaflets (puffs pipe)

What does that have to do with trans people, though? Trans isn't a sexual orientation. Sex very much DOES have a biological and genetic marker! It's the whole basis for humanity continuing.
