I can't be arsed with the Daryl Clare debate again. He is not the problem with this team Spot on. The problem with this team is where it has been all season. In central midfield. Carden is carrying an injury and it shows. He's worked with just about every player capable of midfield play (and some who aren't) and nothing has worked. Yet he is still probably a shoe in to start every game. Now the Playoffs is finally dead and buried it must be time for Ives to get another go. At least he is a midfielder with some promise.

I'd prefer Luke Berry got a go rather than Ives - might actually bring some creativity for once.

Agreed. Berry needs to start getting a proper look in.

It's got so bad I miss Jai Reason! If Carden didn't play on tuesday and presuming Rory is needed at Right back, who have we got to choose from? Ives, Berry and Russell? I'm certainly not Carden's number one fan but I still think he's probably needed with what else we have available. Central midfield has been the main problem since Ling first took over.

Could put Thorpe in at right back & move Rory to the middle.
I think Russell's good in there (he's good everywhere to be quite honest) but he needs to be along side someone who tackles hard.

I just cannot bring myself to talk about today because it was so bad and everyone else has covered what I would say. However, I demand to see more changes for Tuesday. Apart from the forced one I want to see Maz and JP start. They deserve another go because they can't do worse than what we have had lately. Give the bloody youngsters a good go in the side. This should be the case especially away from home. I have no doubt Ling is protecting them from the crowds at home and only giving them half an hour or so. It just seesm that the damage is nearly always well and truly done by the time they get a run out. Rant over.

My anticipation for Luke Berry breaking into the first team grows increasingly with every godawful showing we come up with in the middle of the park.

Sorry I thought Berry was injured? Russell in midfield: Great at the creative stuff, rubbish at the destructive because he simply never makes a tackle. Have a look next match.

Berry returned from injury a couple of weeks ago.
Russell doesn't make sliding tackles no, but he covers ground and gets in the way of things. Our two biggest problems in midfield is that they're always yards away from play, no one's closing down or harrying, and that we lack creativity.
And that's also why I said he needs to be paired with someone who does tackle

By the way, was Pogba offside for his goal today? It looked like it should be such a routine catch for Naisbitt that I wasn't really paying attention.

Exactly what I was thinking, they can't do any worse than being beaten 6-3 by a division lower.
At least they are likely to pass the ball along the ground instead of hoofing it.

We have now conceded 12 goals in the last 3 games. An analysis of how we did that ought to give a clue to the way forward. Remember that we also scored 7 goals in those 3 games. Whilst I agree about the ineffectiveness of midfield and the stupefyingly nonsensical focus on lumping balls up to and over the head of Daryl Clare, rather than providing him, and others with simple balls along the ground which any striker could use, with the possible exception of Wayne Gray, it is the absence of the ability to get first to the breakdown and to pass the ball to a man in amber, which is what defeats us, in my view.
When we play football, instead of lumpball, we look capable. Now, I am sure that the manager and the coach are not calling for their players to simply hoof it, but they are not being effective in preventing them from doing it, either, and that has to change.
I agree with the comments about Luke Berry and also about Conal Platt not being an impact sub and requiring time in a game. We need Carden, even with his shortcomings and injury problems, to hold and break up play and a partner to add zip and passing skill.
Russell in a central role, rather than on the wing and JP to run at defences and cross the ball, which he does well. Liam Hughes can replace Wayne Gray and we save his week to week contract cash.

Agree fully re Carden. His position (asst manager), his salary and his contract make him a major blocker in Ling correcting some of the many faults in this CUFC team. Ling has my sympathy on this one, Carden was appointed before he arrived and now he's stuck with him. Let's remember who appointed him - thanks George.

Carden was bloody awful on Saturday, and if I was a player I would not accept any sort of bollocking or criticism from him after a performance like that. And let's face, it's not exactly the first time he's had an absolute shocker. You can forgive a player not being on form, but as captain (and assistant manager FFS) you need him to lead by example - he doesn't do that. He's nothing more than pedstrian in both defence and attack - dreadful, just dreadful. Get it, pass it, move into space to maybe get it back - his ability to do any of those (let alone all 3 in a row) is almost zero. A million miles from good enough
