Still don't understand why Torquay hate us, can anyone explain? perhaps because of this ongoing fascination with ling and the relentless hope by many that he fails. I find the attitude on this forum by some users who inject so much sarcasm and vitriol against certain individuals without humour a real shame. The general lack of humility and maturity by some individuals who are clearly well educated, articulate and should know better is making me increasingly disillusioned with cufc and football in general.

I agree with those sentiments. There seems to be a relatively small core of regular posters on here. Many seem intent on undermining certain individuals in the team because 'they' don't rate them. Unfortunately, as the Torquay fans comment show, other people will look at this board and judge the 'quality' of the posts on here as being indicative of the kind of club we are. If I were a fan new to the area looking for a club to support I would probably have some serious misgivings about our club if I used the message board as an indicator. Posters take a look at yourselves. Like it or not we're all ambassadors for the club.

Posters take a look at yourselves. Like it or not we're all ambassadors for the club. I seriously hope you don't read other clubs forums, especially Outlaws. And the person who is becoming disillusioned with CUFC because of abuse of players, I'm interested which posters you speak of, I don't see abusing players as a new thing, it's certainly no different now to any other time I can remember.

Where to start? Are you seriously saying that there are people out there who 'look' for a club to support? Do you mean like deciding what colour socks to wear, or having porridge for breakfast as opposed to toast? That seems indicative of all that's wrong with out consumer society. The ability to pick and choose who we support like in the 'pick and mix' in Woolworths.
Aren't people born supporting their home team? Isn't it a love affair that's lasts for life no matter what?
Do you really think that football fans are any different whoever they support? I'm sure that if you go to any message board you will find the same kind of comments. There is 'good' and 'bad' everywhere. If you don't like what is written, don't read it; and you have decided to support CUFC despite what is written here.
I doubt the comments above are representative of the majority of supporters.
How can we be ambassadors of the club if we are only consumers 'choosing' what club we support?

To address some points.
1) I believe a potential new fan is on the museum thread.
2) Regardless of how folk start supporting the U's, the conduct of our fans in any situation is relevant to new fans.
3) As for the behaviour of other clubs fans that has little relevance to how we are perceived.
4) Regarding the sarcasm and hounding of folk, I wasn't just talking about players but some contributors to this board. Some on here spend alot of time and take great satisfaction in upsetting othet users. I use a rugby forum and whilst the humour is present like here, the sniping and personal jibes that some use here aren't.

Aside from one example, I can think of very few incidents on this forum where people have been "sniping" and dishing out "personal jibes".
Sometimes it is the reaction which makes an issue out of something, rather than the intent of the initial post.
I whooshed someone on another thread and they went off on one. No "sniping" or "personal jibes" were involved.

Ok, so some posts misinterpreted result in an unsavoury reaction, example and you "can think of very few incidents on this forum where people have been "sniping" and dishing out "personal jibes"."
But their is no need for it. In the last few weeks on this busyrugby forum I can't think of any personal squabbles and where there is a misunderstanding it's resolved instantly with a good natured constructive dialogue.

I think this board is heaps better than it was 4-5 years ago, back then there was a far more noticable trend for trolling and personel comments. It's all fairly rare now though...unless it's straight after we've lost ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png) Andrew

There is no need for it, but it happens. It's not difficult to deal with. As well as having the right to get annoyed/upset, you also have the right to ignore it.
