Places i'd reccomend are
Bulgaria- went skiing there last year, cheapest place i have ever seen in my life
Jamaica- kingston is a very nice place with lots of stuff to keep people entertained
Carribean in general- awesome
Places i wouldn't reccomend
Hawaii- Rained the Whole time i was out there albeit one day, other then pearl harbour and a volcano there isn't a great amount to do, unless your a very good surfer
Hollywood- not a holiday destination as such but the most disgusting little place i have ever seen in my life, You get these nice theaters you see on tv then surrounding them are Sex shops, its a very dingy place

Are there nearby places to visit from Budapest? Or will the city be enough to keep us occupied for a few days?

Budapest is great with lots of places to visit over a few days which, if you would like, I'll dig out for you as we went a couple of years ago so could make some specific recommendations. The baths are fantastic, several great restaurants & a wonderful cake shop. Also an amazing Communist statue park just outside the city which sounds so-so but is actually a must-see!
Depends how long you're playing to stay of course but Lake Balaton is only 90 minutes away by car and great. It's a massive lake that's like swimming in the sea but with fresh water! Even if late-October's too cold for swimming it's still a lovely place to visit.

There's enough there for a long weekend, definitely, & Lake Balaton is worth a visit if you get bored. There's always stuff going on though, music festivals, film festivals, concerts, art exhibitions... look hard enough & embrace it & you won't run out of things to do. It's a fantastic city

It's a done deal. I'm going to Budapest.
If it's rubbish, I know who to blame for sending me there.

If you have the need to get somewhere on the rickety wooden metro line (can't remember which one it was, yellow one I think?) it's worth doing.
