Whilst there may be an element of truth in what Cummings is saying ?
Surely, I would have thought that being chief adviser to the Government, he would be required to sign the official secrets act ?

I very much doubt he signed anything but regardless of what he signed it is a crime to break the Official Secrets Act and I think he is skating on thin ice on this but I would also not be surprised if the home sec is exercising some leverage to avoid his arrest for political reasons. Last thing the government want is to have the media all over a Cummings arrest as it would then appear there is big cover up. Anyway, Cummings has offered to show the Committee evidence in camera if it can be cleared that he is not breaching the Act by doing this. I bet there is a fair bit of politics going on in the background on all this. Cummings may be an arse but he isn't stupid and the powers that be will be treading carefully because he's a wildcard with potentially lots more toys he could throw out of his pram. I love a bit of blue on blue and don't think it was ever a secret that Hancock is totally effing hopeless.

We are all subject to the terms of the Official Secrets Act. Signing a copy is just a heads up that you are being read-in on something that sensitive. If something secret fell into your hands. On a bus, say. You would still face prosecution if found leaking it, even if you haven't signed the act. Cummings' job was all about managing information. I'm sure he is being careful and expecting the government to crack down at any reasonable opportunity.
