The idea that the constituency ends just south of Hills Rd bridge is laughable imho If you have to make the numbers work, sure, don't include Chinton, but surely sack off Trumpington rather than exclude the area including both sixth form colleges, Addenbrookes and Netherhall. My bad - further research indicates Queen Edith's area has never (?) been a part of the constituency?

Thanks for posting this Dylan - I'd seen it on the BBC in passing but hadn't really taken a lot of notice of it so far. My late Mum when she was a Cambridge City Councillor represented Trumpington, which was and still is part of the City of Cambridge. The Cambridge parliamentary constituency never included Trumpington and Queen Ediths in the past, they were always part of SW Cambridgeshire (from when that seat was created in 1983 I think) largely due to population size. Cherry Hinton has, as far as I recall, always been a part of the City Council and the Cambridge City Constituency, so lumping it out of the parliamentary seat now is sad. Once again, the primary reason will be to do with population size, but the report released yesterday talked about Trumpington now being more urban than Cherry Hinton which seems a little odd, hence why it has now become part of the City seat and Chinton booted out. Queen Ediths, which really is quite urban, stays out as it has in the past, but alongside Chinton will stay part of Cambridge City Council.
If our population continues to rise as it has over the last 20 years, likelihood is we'll have more boundary changes quite quickly and will probably see Cambridge North and Cambridge South as two 'City' seats in the future, provided of course we haven't all left once the Greater Cambridge Partnership has turned us into a ghost town.
If Cambridge continues to

Interesting Jerry.
Acknowledging the need to juggle the number, it still seems ridiculous to me that Cherry Hinton Rd forms the southern boundary of the south east of the city.
IIRC growing up on the north side of Long Rd, this was in Cambridge but the other side was S Cambs.
I am now campaigning to get rid of the kink that follows the path of the A505 and for the northern part of Royston to return to S Cambs as it was before the boundary changes of the 1890s!

(Well, after arriving from London when I was 7) and I recall that the south side, now covered with Clay Farm houses, was South Cambs DC, except of course that Trumpington itself wasn’t!

I spent most of my childhood in Queen Edith's ward and as I got older was frustrated that we were in South Cambs, Andrew Lansley's area, I think for some time.

Could be a good thing for South Cambs though I guess, assuming good is "less likely to vote Torry".
