Why is it that we are having so many Potholes these days ?
It seems that in recent years that it has got drastically worse.
I don't get it that the frost is causing all the troubles although I don't suppose it helps
Winters in the past have been far more severe than of recent years
I can only assume that it is down to the materials that are used
Whilst I believe that part of the excuse is that there is more traffic on the roads these days, it hasn't multiplied that quickly
Coming home from shopping this morning I had to try and avoid potholes every few yards in Granhams road, especially the Babraham road end

When they repair potholes it’s the quick and cheap option. It’s been this way for a long time, so the problems get worse year on year. It’s only going to get worse every year until they get so many compensation claims that that are no longer saving money by not repairing them properly.

Nah it’s all Liam O’Neill’s fault.

The pothole situation in Cambridge is an absolute disgrace at the moment. Every main road, and plenty of minor ones too, is affected, and in some cases the potholes are more like craters. The left hand turn lane from Fen Causeway to Newnham Road is now coned off because the damage is so bad.
Whilst potholes are exacerbated by cold weather, and the pre-Xmas freeze certainly wouldn't have helped, the main cause is the scant lack of programmed re-surfacing or proper maintenance. The patches used to repair previous damage fail really quickly, in many events inside a matter of days, so what we need is a planned schedule of proper lasting repairs. Trouble is, our hopeless local authorities just waste money on bus and congestion tax consultaitons rather than using the money properly to deliver a service to residents.

Improving routes for everyone, cars included, will do more to improve congestion than any of the nonsense they've spent lots of time and money consulting on.

Doesn't scan as well as "in Blackburn, Lancashire", even if there are more of them.

Considering that Cambridgeshire is quite a big county & the amount of potholes that I have seen in the small part that I have covered.
I would say that the councils admittance to there being over 5000 potholes is far less than there really is

It will be based on reported ones only. I hit a massive one on the A142 on the edge of Newmarket and got a puncture, put in a claim for the £295 replacement tyre and because it had been less than 10 days since being reported they wouldn't pay out, ba*tards. Apparently that 10 days has been extended to 12 weeks now due to there being so many potholes!
