Hi, an Oxford United fan here in peace. Our club is desperately trying to secure a new stadium site, or we’ll be homeless from 2026. With that in mind, if anyone on here would be happy to fill in a short online questionnaire being run by Oxfordshire County Council, our fans would be massively grateful. It only takes about five minutes or so to fill in the short online form with positive answers at www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/C8O8VI/ by 23 July 2023. The benefits to you as away fans will be: A sustainable stadium right next door to a major railway station in Oxford Parkway (a short train ride from Oxford City Centre) and opposite a large Park&Ride site, which would make it one of the easiest, greenest grounds to get to in the UK. Proper drinking, food and entertainment options at the ground itself, compared to embarrassing facilities currently on offer at our current ground or nearby. A modern, well-designed ground which will help to support a proper atmosphere, rather than the soulless, three-side ground we have now. A few sentences on any of the above for the survey’s final comment box would be really helpful in showing our County Council that the new ground will be sustainable, increase spending in Oxfordshire, and provide excellent facilities for home AND away fans. We all appreciate the value of a good away day, whether we’re potentially playing you in a league or cup game from 2026 onwards. Taking a few minutes to support a fellow club before it becomes homeless in just a few years would be massively appreciated. Thank you.

Done.
You're up against a right bunch of mobilised NIMBY sponges, so fair play for fighting them at their own game, especially as it essentially has flip all to do with them.
Good luck.

Thank you mate, really appreciate that. And well done on staying up last season. Always look forward to my day out in Cambridge and games at the Abbey, even though we rarely win!

Done. Happy to support the OUFC ground proposal. Best of luck! Thanks mate, much appreciated. The current stadium is an absolute nightmare to get to for away fans. There is also nothing around the stadium bar a sewage farm. It makes going to some of the great pubs in the city really difficult before the game. The site proposed is extremely well connected and you can get the train from the city centre to Oxford Parkway (next to the stadium). The journey is only 5 minutes.

Are the owners of the ground the same as the owners of the club? Wikipedia suggests they are - how does that complicate the move, if at all?
Why won't the owners of the ground extend the lease beyond 2026? What are they going to do with it?
I understand why you want to move, just wondered the above. :-)

In answer to it, the current owners have only been around for a few years. Firoz Kassam bought the club in 1999 for a £1 (the club was in huge debt at the time) and built the stadium in 2001. The 25 year lease was then given to the club. He sold the club in 2006 but is still the owner of the stadium to date. It’s a long story but the club (under various ownerships) have been trying to buy the stadium since he sold the club in 2006, but every effort has been unsuccessful. Kassam wants to knock the stadium down and build houses/flats on the site. He is already selling off parcels of land at the current site and will make a fortune when he knocks down the current stadium to build houses.
