"This argument goes in circles. Why should victims have to follow the 'right' process when 98% of the time it doesn't result in justice"
Indeed. The trial by media argument distracts from the importance of listening to women. So many awful stories of assault being ignored, if victim blaming or of humiliation.
Guilty or not sadly a channel 4 expose isn't something available to the majority of the 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men who have been sexually assaulted in some way (I think I remembered those stats right..) Looking at some of the comments used on social medias to defend Brand maybe a good thing 🤷♂️
I doubt there'll be justice here either, tbh, but hopefully what incidents like this will do is make people question the behaviour of themselves as well as their friends/colleagues.

This argument goes in circles. Why should victims have to follow the 'right' process when 98% of the time it doesn't result in justice. Because society becomes carnage without the 'right' process. The system is broken. I agree with that wholeheartedly, and rape victims are absolutely being let down. The solution is to fix the system, which means government investment in policing. It doesn't mean we should have a system where anyone can have their life destroyed by an accusation, where we police and judge through the media. Lets be honest, the media is pretty much the last industry (along with politics) you'd look to for the decency and morality which is necessary to administer proper justice. You logic seems to be take a broken system and break it further. Baffles me.

I don't disagree, but what do we do while we wait for the system to be fixed? Where do sexual assault victims go to be listened to and get anything approaching justice?
Hopefully taking this approach, while a long way from ideal, us an opportunity to keep the conversation in the public circle, highlights the problems faced, puts pressure on the police to do better and puts pressure on the government to invest. Change definitely isn't easy, but hopefully this could be where it starts...if we take the right lessons from it.
I think the fact that the system is broken and the alternative(s) are societally dangerous is a rather poor indictment of us and our justice system.
My respect to those who are able to come forward....whoever they're able to tell. It's not an easy thing to speak about. ❤️

Often it is one persons word against another and often this dates back years so evidence is hard to gather. By all means lock up and throw away key if someone has committed such an offence but you need to be 100% sure they did. I for one would not want to see 'justice done' with a load of innocent people locked up. Sadly that means a number of guilty people walk free as their guilt is hard to prove and difficult that may be, I think that is the right thing.

A number of sexual offenders are not being brought to justice because their crime isn't being reported, that leaves them free to reoffend and gives them the confidence to do so. So...step by step I think for now justice is taking accusations of sexual assault more seriously and removing the shame, blame, stigma and fear associated with reporting the crime. As well as offering unconditional levels of support and care that the victims deserve.
Hopefully once that barrier is removed we can do...better.
Justice also looks like education and accountability. It's not enough just to have an easier route for reporting or a higher rate of prosecution we also need a lower rate of offending. (Some) Men have to be better at calling out their friends, they have to be more honest with themselves too. Parents need to better at educating their sons.
Way too many enablers out there. Way too many excuses and not enough action.
