So much to choose from. Maybe it’d need several volumes of books rather than just the one…
Some “highlights” for me to kick things off:
0-5 against Leicester, 0-7 against Luton, 0-6 against MK Dons, 0-1 against MK Dons and 0-1 against Burton last season, 0-5 against Boro and the end of Bonner, 0-5 against Histon, relegation from the Football League, relegation from League 1 despite finishing 20th due to the stupid Premier League, 31 matches without a win (though thankfully before my time), failure to beat Cardiff when they only had 8 men, Shaggy’s relegation season, the second play-off final defeat, GMT Cambridge last season…

Losing to Rochdale to send us out of football league
Losing 5. 0 to Histon
Losing 5.0 to Peterborough
That tackle by Bolton on Trevor Benjamin
Losing to Kidderminster the year we went out of the league, that was when we knew we were down
Being only minutes away from liquidation.
Having to apply for election to stay in the league mid eighties I think.
They are the worst moments I can think of off the top of my head

The whole era of Shaun Derry The whole era of John Ryan and Ken Shiletto. That night in Leicester Selling the ground to the ginger twit who then refused to sell it back Getting relegated because Shrewsbury lost to Bournemouth the day before the last day of the season. Not sure if they played a weakened team or not, or if that was an excuse, but it suits the narrative, The 2 Wembley finals that we just didn’t show up to The LDV final when we also failed to show up The Harrogate debacle when we should have got promoted The whole Steve Thompson era Defeats, and being outplayed, by Hayes and Yeading

One has its own chapter.

Hold on. None of these were anywhere near a greatest moment though!

Hit me with a top 10 worst moments and we’ll see if the idea has any legs. Personally, I'd rather forget about our worst moments, unless it's in a time of success when it's good to juxtapose in order to feel the good times more powerfully. It might be harder to get ex-players to talk about nightmare moments, too. It might work in a book about the sale and re-purchase of the Abbey and the intervening years, though?

Isn’t that the one that Gary Harwood is still writing?

Losing 2-0 at Hayes in front of 326 people in a league match.

Don't worry - there's no way I'm writing that book, not least of all because I can't see the club selling it, or many people buying it! And yeh, I can imagine trying to do interviews where I have to explain at the top, 'Right, so this is for a book called Cambridge United's Worst Moments, and I couldn't possibly write it without speaking to you...'

I reckon you would sell a few in the north of the county - especially if Barry Fry wrote the foreword!

He's been in two of the three books so far - I'm not talking to him again!

Phew! How about a book about the sale and re-purchase of the Abbey, though? I just watched Mr Bates v The Post Office and would love to see a dramatised version of The Abbey Sale, starring Christopher Lee as the evil John Howard and Mr Blobby as Gary Harwood.
