Yeah the point being for people who can't understand why we didn't stick with Bonner if we were going to appoint someone who has a similar style to Bonner.
Bonner had run out of ideas, was making some odd decisions, tactically unaware for in game changes that clearly needed to be made, rumours of unrest in the changing room. The writing was on the wall and changes needed to be made otherwise we were sleepwalking to league two given the performances and results (one win in thirteen).
Bonner was an excellent man manager but when the excellent man manager starts to lose some players in the dressing room you have to ask is the right time to go in a different direction? In my opinion, yes.
Harris won't take any $hit from players and will get us well drilled, difficult to beat and I think we'll stay up comfortably with him and this squad.

Not a fan of such histrionics, personally. If we are winning games and doing ok then he'll do for me. IMO we needed a fresh start, some different ideas so starts with a clean slate and open mind from me. Don't expect much change Saturday but will be interesting to see how it evolves over the next few months especially if there is movement in and our in Jan.

Winning or losing, your manager getting a touchline ban is stupid. Same as players getting booked or sent off for dissent. Anyway hopefully we won't be in a position often enough where he'll feel it necessary to lose his rubbish.

There will also be a bit of, why didn't we get Cowley/Ainsworth/Rowett, pressure put on him. This is my thought. Hope he does well but I don't think this is a good move and if anything a bit of a panic by Barry. Yes, he has done well in the past but looks similar style wise to Bonner. Keeping same backroom too. I was Bonner IN, so for me this is a sideways move and would rather we stuck with him. Had we got Cowleys/Ainsworth then fair enough, something different. Can't see how it's a panic by Barry? Not much needed to change, we've got a good set up - Corr comes across well and seems to be well respected by the players. Don't know much about Betsy but he seems to have some good experience. As Harris said in the interview (not sure if this was his line or he'd taken it from the club) it's about 'evolution not revolution'. We don't need to start from scratch which the Cowleys may have done. The more I think about it, the more I'm really happy with this appointment and the more it makes good sense. Keeping Corr in place makes me happy. Harry has links and connections to the club going back a long way. If people are complaining that it seems a bit too much like Bonner - why's that a problem? If it's Bonner of 20-21 and 21-22, then happy days. I cannot see us continuing the poor form of the last two seasons under a new manager who has experience of promotion from league 1 and managing higher up.

Were there actually any reasonable rumours of dressing room unrest? Fans putting two and two together and getting five doesn't count as a rumour to me, and I never heard a dicky bird about a player or players being upset with Mark.

I think the speed of the appointment suggests there was a plan, rather than a panic.
Delighted Barry Corr is staying, pleased Betsy is staying too as that felt like an important part of our evolution that (sh/c)ould still work the way intended with the players we have.
We've seen the standards these players set earlier in the season and while I don't expect them to hit those levels I do expect an immediate improvement. It's a pretty good job to come into really, expectations are fairly reasonable, the board is patient, the squad and structure are already in place and unlike at Gillingham it's not a hopeless firefighting job and he'll get January to make a couple of additions.

Andrew Good call that Andrew, think he has a pretty good insight into the club for being a local guy anyway. Lots of experience and down to earth knowledge and close ties with Barry Corr at Southend way back, so you`d like to think they sing from the same Hymn sheet, especially on the striker front. Just keep one of our guys up on the Half Way line when defending a corner in the 84th minute and I`ll be a Happy Bunny ! Welcome to the Mighty U`s Neil, I`m sure you`ll do us proud !

You dont give someone a new deal 2 months ago if they had been poor last 2 years. Last year was poor only in that we survived last day and had set huge expectations with our 11th place finish season before. A bit like this year, had we been more consistent (so WDLLWDLLWDLLWDLLWDLL type of form rather than WDLWDWLWWDDLLLLDLLLL, which is the same points) would there be a problem. Like had we spent this season between 14th and 19th place compared to 5th down to 18th. The latter always looks worse.

Rennett for example, player of the season for me overall but dropped last few games (Wycombe he was immense). Diggers having a tantrum after being played out of position. Two big players. Brophy had dropped levels in last few as well, maybe Fejiri and Thomas too, all senior pros.

huge expectations with our 11th place finish season before *14th I also don't think anyone sensible had "huge" expectations after that. Look back through the predictions thread on here for last year & you'll see most thought we'd finish lower.

Not for me. Rennett was dropped after two collectively awful games for our defence so something had to give. I think he was dropped, in part, so we could play higher and with a hit more pace in defence.
Digby put in tonnes of effort in the 4 games or so he was out of position before his sending off so that probably indicates he was happy enough, I wouldn't say he had a tantrum particularly.
There's a lot to say about the last few games/months but I don't think I'll ever believe there was enough dressing room unrest to destabilise the team. I've only ever heard the complete opposite tbh, though I'm sure players will always have gripes and whines. There's probably one or two going to be already annoyed at Harris if they're not picked on Saturday tbh.

I was gutted to see Mark go. In no small part because it means we now enter the typical ‘merry-go round’ cycle that all the other clubs go through.
Having a young, articulate local lad as your head coach is really rare. Particularly one that has achieved some success and is still learning his trade and will likely get better over time.
He reunited and reinvigorated the club and it felt like such a rare thing that you literally had an obligation to build around it and make it work as much as possible.
The opportunity was there to really build on the stability and steer clear of the usual cut throat business of typical football short-termism for a long term project. I fear that because no one will have that same connection to the club that Mark did, we’re now back in that ‘hire and fire’ cycle where people call for the manager’s head after 3 bad results on the trot.
For me, and I think I’m in the minority, we could and should have persevered with Mark for a bit longer. I will concede though, I was starting to lose faith that he was going to find solutions.
I was certain that after a break and time on the training ground we’d be a different animal v Cobblers and we just weren’t.
I think it’s gonna be really tough for Harris to follow what’s come before him. It’s tough for anyone to come in after a club legend.
But - as much as I can’t bring myself to have much excitement about it - I do think, objectively, it’s a good appointment.
Knows the staff, has achieved things at a higher level. Strong personality. Has players that fit what he wants to do already so no real transition period.
I think he’ll make us awkward to play against and I think he’ll do a good job.

"I’ve always liked him, followed his coaching for years. He'll do wonders for you. He may of been the slightly cheaper option, but he'll take you forward for sure."
Some geezer I know re Harris.
