Why is is the that the cyclists that I come across do not seem to have bells or the modern equivalent these days ?
I was out this morning walking down one of the footpaths from the village. I stopped to look at a tree trunk that had been cleared from the path when suddenly a cyclist went past me. If I had stepped back at the wrong moment I would have been hit by the cyclist. There are signs on the footpath for cyclists to sound their bell
Don't cycles come with a bell fitted as standard these days ?

There's also a duty on you to look before you step back, of course. Poor cyclist going about his business might have been seriously injured by someone stepping into their path.
Fwiw, when I have to cycle on a shared bike/foot path I prefer to slow down and 'announce' myself as I approach ("Bike on your right...thanks") rather than ring a bell. Feels so arrogant and impersonal to ring a bell at someone to me. Always seems to be done at the last minute too, I like to give plenty of warning so that I'm not creeping up on people or making them jump.

On foot, on a bike or in a vehicle it's the same thing, take responsibility for your own safety and don't be a bellend or rely on others to do it for you.
Does the job I'd say.

I cycle a lot. I also drive. I may get chuffed off with drivers when it's my right of way but I tend to give way as I don’t want to get crushed. There are also some terrible cyclists. Don't get me started on those electric scooter riders!

What gets me is when I give way to an oncoming driver & then the driver behind me overtakes me. Also when I keep a safe distance behind the car in front( 1 cars length for every 10 m.p.h) and the car behind closes that gap. And Cyclists that think that traffic lights do not apply to them. And overtaking on the inside coming up to a junction. they do not seem to realise how dangerous this is. As is put on the back of some Lorries, right side & suicide. P.s some time back I was driving from the Cherry Hinton road round about to wards the hospital when a cyclist in front of me suddenly moved out to turn right, didn't look to see whether the way was clear & didn't give a hand signal For some reason luckily, I seemed to sense this. I dread to think of the outcome if I was about to overtake him.

I cannot believe, for a prohibited form of transport (aside strangely from private hire companies), there are so many of these on the streets these days. Seems to be no enforcement of the laws around their usage at all.

It’s time that they prohibited cyclists in Cambridge and let cars rule the roads like they were intended to
