Never really answered the question regarding Cousins. Freshening things up is fine but surely he wasn’t out of the squad completely due to that.

Even though our weather forecast tells us Bristol is the South West, it’s still 2.5hrs from home. First time to Bristol Rovers ground and what a strange experience, hidden amongst housing developments of N Bristol. The ground looks like 4 steel erectors have been given a different brief to develop each side of the ground. Anyway onto to the match. Why did we set up so defensively? Why did we play Bonne up front instead of Ahadme? Why did it take us 88mins to fire up? Why are B Rovers so far ahead of us when they are so rubbish? And finally, will we stay up?

He never answers a question, example. when asked about George Hoddle. "Yeah no. I said there great, and George when he come on...." Was he watching this match or a completely different one? He seems to be satisfied with what went on.

No point him travelling down to Bristol on the monday with the squad and then getting back early hours today if the plan was to give him a break.

What game was Monk watching? Yes we had some chances but not 4 or 5 really good chances and not a couple cleared off the line at the end? 1 really good chance that hit the post and Lennet’s shot that was very comfortably stopped on the line. Digby’s and KaiKai’s were half chances and I don’t remember a header from Bonne or Rossi that troubled the keeper. No mention that Rovers could have been out of sight by halftime as we were so poor. Rovers were so much better than us at most aspects especially finding a teammate when making a pass and creating overlaps down the flanks and making incisive, dangerous passes into the box. And they were on an awful run of form. Getting a point would have been extremely fortunate, if Monk thought we could have had all 3 then I want some of what he was drinking all day yesterday.

How can on the face of it skilful players like Kaikai, Kachunga, Lankester etc. be so useless at simply passing the ball properly? Over the last two years whenever I have watched them the U’s are always worst at passing, even against rubbish sides, and even when we win. Central midfield (Digby +1) is probably the culprit. What those two do is infect the rest of the team with iron feet.
There was one passage yesterday that seemed to encapsulate things. Andrew and somebody else played themselves out of trouble really well, and found Lankester on halfway. Though tightly marked, he found space with a brilliant bit of footwork. The break was on. And then he passed it to a Rover. Actually that first part with all the skill and accurate passing wasn’t typical. But the last bit was.

Geez... Monk is talking out of his backside in that interview.
Yes, we did have the best chances but we did nothing other than sit back for the rest of the game and couldn't string a pass together for most of it.
We didn't deserve to lose?! We were shite for the 95 of the 96 minutes of that game and made Bristol Rovers look like a premier league team.
Also, team selection was bizarre. Ahadme has to start. Bonne simply isn't good enough but even so, why are we playing him so isolated? Him and Kachunga are not the kind of players who can hold the ball up.
Mannion and Rossi our stand out players. Monk seems very complacent, does he think we're safe already?

He is probably reflecting on what he asked the team to do - sit deep, defend well, hold on to a point and hopefully hit them on the break to gather all 3. Most of that we did yesterday, in a poor quality game.
On another day, their penalty wouldn't have been saved, our header off the bar would have gone in, Lennet's shot wouldn't have been blocked on the line. It's a game of fine margins.

We have to remember that Ahadme has just had 3 months out, we need him for the bulk of the remaining matches, so nursing him in a 'lesser' game is important.

I'd contend yesterday absolutely was not a lesser game whatsoever & was one we'd have been targeting a win from.

Well, yes, but with Derby and WW up next, surely Brovers was the game to target for a point or three?

We were very poor & looked very panicky on the ball with multiple occasions where we lost the ball in simple situations. We definitely could have won though as they were not much better & lacking in confidence (& goals) If Rossi hits the target instead of the bar then I don't see them getting an equaliser as they were not creating anything at that time. Yes, they missed a penalty but Digby had a free header & only has to place it a yard either side of the keeper, Kaikai should be hitting the target just before he was subbed & Bonne had a good chance with a header in the first half but made a mess of it Yes, we were fecking awful to watch but Bristol Rovers were there for the taking last night & I think with Gibbons & Ahadme starting, we would have won. Can't wait for this season to end as we're only staying up due to 4 really bad teams below us & we need to dismantle this squad

No, I would agree with that, 3 points from a weaker opposition would have seen us just about safe, but perhaps he thought the team and the game plan he asked them to employ would be good enough to manage that job.
