Burton up to 16 signings now, including paying "near 6 figures" for a 25-year-old from the National League North. Really hope they're a disaster this season because with the level of investment they're making you'd think they'll likely get it right in the longer term. They could be anything because they have bought lots of untried (at the level) from lower leagues or youngsters from higher up. They could work and unfortunately not be in the battle of the bottom 8, or the wheels could come off and they will be! Was talking to a Cobblers ST holder at my son's cricket game at the weekend and he thinks they will struggle more this year without Leonard & Bowie. Some Pish fan's that live in my village also think they will be nowhere near the top 6 this year with all the outgoings. Still 4 weeks or so away though

Still 4 weeks or so away though Historically, promoted clubs find the second season harder than the first - I'd expect one of Orient, Northampton and Stevenage to drop next season, alongside one of the newly promoted teams (probably Crawley). Then it's most likely to be one from the teams that struggled last seasons (us, Shrewsbury, Burton and maybe Exeter) and - more often that not - one surprise: Reading or Bristol R perhaps?

I’ve been thinking about next season and finishing places, particularly as the usual predictions are starting to filter on to social media as they do at this stage every year. I have Mansfield, Crawley, Shrewsbury and Stevenage as my bottom four as it stands. I have a feeling we’ll reach the dizzy heights of 14th - largely as for me so far we’ve recruited really well and offloaded those simply not up to it at the level. Birmingham, Bolton and Rotherham are my promotion picks.
Not sure what to make of Burton. It is almost too much change for a small club in one window and could really go one of two ways for them.

Crawley have lost 8 of their starting line up from Wembley so hopefully they will really struggle.

The bookies have Crawley (8/13), Shrewsbury (13/10), Northampton and us (both 6/4) to go down. Just above the relegation zone they currently have Burton, Mansfield, Exeter and Stevenage (all 11/4) Then Orient (3-1) and Bristol R (4-1). Birmingham are evens for promotion, Bolton 3-1, Wrexham and Rotherham 7-2 (ludicrous odds for Wrexham, surely?), Huddersfield 4-1, Posh 9-2, Charlton 5-1 (good value maybe?), and Barnsley 11-2. The pack (Reading, Lincoln, Blackpool, Stockport, Wigan, Wycombe) are 7-1 or 8-1 Fourth year in a row that the odds predict we drop...

Tempting to lay Wrexham at those odds as that is far too short IMO. Rotherham have a knack of always bouncing back and Birmingham have splashed the cash a bit too. May well be Bolton's time but who knows. Some strong contenders for promotion this year that's for sure. And let's hope the bookies are wrong about us again this year

Think it will be Bolton, Charlton and Brum going up, with ‘Uddersfied a very close 4th. To go down Orient, Northampton, Crawley and Burton

Bookies get very 'lazy' at this stage, predicting that those who struggled in the previous year and those who are promoted as being their favourites. It's a bonkers market to bet in.

In theory that should make it a good market to bet in. Trouble is, they keep all the odds so short that it isn't. Imagine a 24 runner horse race with an evens favourite followed by 6 runners from 3/1 to 11/2. That's pretty poor

Blues are pushing to sign Jay Stansfield for upto £10m apparently.
Already spent several million quid on players. Possibly the most expensive L1 squad ever if not the best.
Will mean f*ck all when they go 1 down at Wycombe and the ball is in play for 12 minutes but it still shows what we are competing with.

Already outspent 22 of the championship clubs iirc, and no sign of slowing down.

I think they could find better value if they searched all around the world.

Interesting that they appointed a coach with no management experience to build this team too. Given the size of their investment that does seem like a big gamble (fully appreciate there have been similar appointments that have done very well), especially as there were good managers available.

There does seem to have been a nervous knee-jerk to them being relegated, I'm not sure many at the club expected that until it was probably too late, sleepwalking into going down, not helped by the ridiculous move to sack Eustace and bring in Rooney for a very short lived unsuccessful tenure! How much the subsequent relegation was down to Mowbray being ill and on recuperation, we will never know; Rowett had a hell of a job on his hands when he was brought in at the end of the season.
It's quite likely that the investment they have made in players is what was planned for Championship football if they had stayed up - at least in terms of expenditure, if not the actual players.
