The Garry Monk revolution starts today. I think everyone has had enough of stressful final days, three of them in the last four years, but we should also be proud that on each occasion our club has done enough to make sure (with a little luck in 2023) that we are a League One club the following season.
It’s been at least 48 hours since we last had a poll, so to prevent withdrawal symptoms for the whole message board, what are everyone’s realistic expectations for the coming season? What is the minimum Monk must achieve for 24/25 to be considered a success rather than a failure?

(with a little luck in 2023) Can we do a poll whether it was luck or the Burton keeper?

Surviving, but better than this season. I doubt we'll be able to go the whole season looking comfortable and I feel like it'll be a slightly more difficult start to the last two seasons where we've started the season brilliantly and not been able to keep it up, mainly as I think it will take a while for tactical and personnel changes to gel and I can also see us continuing to bring in players all the way up to deadline day rather than being all but finished by the first week like the last few years. Youth development is another thing which I hope Monk will emphasise. Jobe looks like he'll be a key player if we keep him, but I'd like to see the likes of Hoddle, McConnell and Njoku properly integrated into the squad to allow them the opportunity to make that next step up.
I'd also say that off the pitch continuing to grow and maintain high attendances is obviously a target, hopefully can have some new stadium plans as well...

Success would be top half, failure would be relegation (although not the end of the world) - anything in-between fine.

Yeah, I'd like to see progress, as we all would. But I think our best chance of sustained progress is to remain in this league long enough to get the stadium development done. Any means of survival will do.
I'd rather not have final day stress again, but if someone said to me we could stay up on the final day every year for the next three years, but by then we'll have a much better stadium and crowds of 10k, I'd take that all day long.
You need 10k plus crowds to make this league sustainable. Just over 10 years ago our average crowd was 2,200 in non-league. Huge credit to those running the club that we're even having this discussion. But looking forward, remaining in this division, whilst being fiscally responsible, has to the aim for the next two seasons IMO.
This approach also requires the ground development to be done promptly however. We can't keep surviving on one of the lowest budgets in the division.

A mid-table finish with a six-figure cup run would be ideal.

It appears (especially after listening to GM’s post match interview) that we have a very happy and well run club.
So my priorities would be:
Maintaining the positivity (with no rotten apples), survive (preferably with a few games to spare), plans approved for the Abbey redevelopment and a cup run (in any of the cups).

Like to see Mamadou in the first team regularly. Glenn & George in the squad regularly.
Be nice to sign a couple of younger but established players now.
Positive, front foot football that gives us a chance to dominate at home and regularly compete away. With that, an improved away record.
Some flair and creativity.
Less sentimentality around players.
Some sort of cup run.
Due diligence done and establishing a core group of 15 or 16 who can go the majority of the season without long term injuries.
A first choice, first team, no questions asked number 1 Goalkeeper.
A wizened elder statesmen type football person on the board, to complement the excellent folk we have. Please don’t say that we already have Dion, as much as we all love him.
Some of that is as much a group effort between our staff as it is on Monk, likewise some are priorities and others just stuff I would like, but there we go.

Success next season is being in league 1 for the year after, however that looks. I said it on another thread but next season is another level and we have to match that. Mid Table would be a fantastic achievement but so would finishing 20th.
I'd like to see a long term plan in place by the end of next season though, 5-6 players with a good sell on value & a few youth lads making themselves established in the squad. None of this "half the team is out of contract, let's bring in some older heads to steady the ship"
Do I think Monk is the right man for a rebuild? Yes, he'll have a plan & he's got enough contacts to make that happen. I also don't believe he'll snake us as he turned down a few clubs before coming to us (Bristol Rovers were one for sure).

Next season is going to be tough no doubt about it but I’m fascinated about how the club and Monk are going to approach it.
I’m expecting a hike in ST prices but will it be a modest increase to reflect increase costs or a substantial increase with the excuse of a bigger budget for the squad?
I think it might be time to increase the size of the pitch rather than us having the joint smallest. Yesterday’s pitch at Vale looked so much wider. If Monk wants us to play a more passing style then any extra room to do that will help.
Monk probably has a good contacts book at championship level but a sign that we are an established L1 club would be taking a punt on a promising non-league youngster, not like Pish by buying up the best player in the conference but maybe somewhere a bit lower down. It would be great to watch someone giving a chance in the league and taking it. Any transfer fee would be a sticking point obviously but you never know with a new manager and another season with some big crowds in the pipeline again.
Only Burton (and Crawley if they came up) will bring a minuscule away following next season now Fleetwood and Cheltenham have gone.
I’m looking forward to August already.
