To Madeira was an invented player, he wasn't real but was created with fantastic stats. Too true. I can't remember the player who was at Redditch I think, he was another one of these types. He had pretty poor stats but was an excellent player, and was named after one of the programmers or researchers. Also there were a few clubs with excellent youth systems IIRC - Braintree being one of these. I suggest you all download this classic again from the link I posted earlier, use the update patch and get playing this classic once more

Guiseley were another one that used to churn out amazing youth players, you could often pick up a player for a 5 figure fee and always sell them on for millions soon after!

After taking United to a top five finish in the Prem league and two Euro Cup victories on the bounce, I decided to load up every Eastern European league and start at the bottom, did stints in Hungary, Slovakia and Russia before ending up in Ukraine with a team called Karpaty. Quite a challenge as Shaktar have won 19 Ukrainian league titles on the spin! Finished 2nd both seasons I've been there and comfortably in 2nd this season half way through but 5 points behind Shaktar. Have won their first bit of silverware ever - the Ukranian Cup.
It's a great league for signing up and coming South American youngsters but you're only allowed 7 foreigners in the starting 11 so also keep my eye out for Ukranians as well. Really enjoying the challenge of trying to break the Shaktar monopoly - they did offer me the job at the start of the season but I'm quite enjoying trying to break that Shaktar monopoly.
Also managing Internationally - took Poland to the second round of World Cup, Mexico to the semi final when hosting it and also won the Gold Cup which is not too difficult - USA only real competition. Now at Argentina, beaten on pens by arch rivals Brazil in the semi final of Copa America, now comfortably qualifying for the next world cup but was just beaten by Brazil which the FA and fans were none too chuffed about!

My only gripe with the game is tactics, I'm not ashamed to admit I just download them off the internet and use whatever works best. I don't enjoy spending hours tinkering seeing what works, I enjoy signing players and bringing youngsters through into the first team.
What does everyone else do tactic wise? Do your own or get some from fan sites? Anyone got any that have worked wonders for them as United in FM11? I think even if you have by far the best 11 in the game, just using the bog standard 4-4-2 or other out of the box tactics you won't ever dominate like you should do.

I have to admit I use a tactic I nicked from the football manager forums and it works a treat! It's a 4-4-2 system but not using left or right midfielders but a DM, AMC and two central midfielders. Every time I take over a new club left and right midfield players are immediately surplus to requirements!

In FM I often start a game 10-20 years into the future...starting with little knowledge of who players are, who will come good, etc. makes for a very interesting challenge!
I could just start with fake players, but I like to look back at the history of what happened with different players and teams.

I'm in about 2023 and am in my third year in the Prem. Am struggling a bit this year finding myself second bottom. I have embarrasing home games as only 4,300 souls can get in because of seating restrictions. My first season in the conference was really really tough
The games around the turn of the century were ace and Tonton Zola Moukoko became the highest EVER scorer at the U's with something like 200+ goals!! Legend
Things i'd like to see in the newer addition is more changes to the game of football. Within the game allowing for things like- cahnges in rules to allow terracing, changes in foreign players allowed in squads, rule changes etc. Making the 'engine' react to whats happening in the game a bit more
Question on tactics- I too use the narrow formation but find the players just fire off a ton of long shots. Do you play it 'narrow' on the tactics borad as well?

Within the game allowing for things like- cahnges in rules to allow terracing I don't think we will ever see terracing in the premier league again so the game wouldn't/shouldn't allow it as Football Manager matches rules in real life as much as possible. I had the same issue but thankfully got a new stadium now.

I never play narrow. Also employ a AML, AMR and play wide quick counter football! Europa League next to look foward to but I just cant find the effort to play the game Just waiting for FM12 really now

My Crystal Palace game mentioned above has turned into my most successful attempt at the game ever.
Season 1- promotion to Premier League via playoffs. Season 2- 5th in league Season 3- 2nd in league, League Cup Final, 3rd rd of UEFA Cup (threw away 2-0 first leg lead against Parma when my keeper was sent off after ten mins of the return) Season 4- league winners on goal difference, FA Cup finalist and Champions League finalist.
By this point I'd not spent more than £2.7m on any player, but had now saved up enormous amounts of money so spent £30m on Rio Ferdinand, £29m on Vieira and £15.5m on Vieiri. Won the league by six points in season 5 and won the FA Cup too. 8 wins out of 9 at the start of the league season 6. Took over France at the end of season 4 and have guided them to European Cup with 6 wins and a draw with one game remaining.
I've always stuck with a 4-3-3 of sorts, with one out and out striker and two more withdrawn and playing as incoming wingers, with three central midfielders and a typical back four. I've scored 100 league goals in 4 of my 5 seasons.

Anyhow, I'm managing Perugia at the moment - the fallen giants of Italian football. Just coming to the end of the second season. I won Serie 2/C and have wrapped up Serie 2/B already, including a 20 game winning streak at the start of the season. 2 games left, and IIRC I'm P32/W30/D0/L2 and 4-0 up after the first leg of the Serie C cup semi final. I am now in my 4th season, 3 league titles and I'm currently riding high in Serie A

i play football manager 2009. the modern one's piss off me and my computer. Far too slow and 2011 didn't even work. Despite having quite a modern computer. Anyway. I just started a new game with Wales. Qualifying for 2010 world cup. Results so far are like this . currently topping my group which includes finland , russia and germany with a 100% record so far.
