"It's nearly as funny as Forest getting the wally with the brolly." Steve McLaren is a good appointment. Martin Ling is not. You want to try and convince some of the locals around here of that, there is a lot of despair around. It could work for them over time though, something v unlikely at Torquay now.

There is no mention of a thwee year pwan on there, I expect that is to follow. For fear of a whooshing, the fwee year pwan would only feature if our board of directors rocked up there with him.

Forest fans are stupid then. They need to get over the fact that he was crap for England and Wolfsburg and look at the fact he was instrumental in Manchester United's treble, did a great job with Middlesbrough including winning their first trophy in years and getting to a European final and won the title with FC Twente having finished runners-up in his first season. He also has an exceptional record with bringing through youth team players.

A match made in heaven as far as I am concerned. Just desserts for torquay for thier tatics as wembley. cant wait to see them back in the conference once wonder managers dream thwee ywear pwan kicks in...17 reserve keepers, jon schofield, daryl clare et al. the best bit for united is that he will be off the payroll now..

I just read Torquay's forum and I admire their optimism. TBH Ling had a good budget, not a bad team and he done extremely poorly. He is a poor manager and I would guess that Torquay's budget would be simular to what we had last year so I can't see him doing anything apart from getting them close to the bottom of the league. The bottom teams in L2 tend to get religated due to money problems rather than footballing ability. On paper (before Cambridge) he is a good signing, in truth he is a poor manager and the fact Dean Smith has gone on to do so well sums it up really. This is a great piece of news as I would believe, apart from maybe Carden, he would be our highest earner. A huge part of the budget has been saved today ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

I'm just he's sorted something out and both parties can now fully move on. Good luck to him, they're only a small club but I'd rather see them maintain a league place rather than Macc/Stanley/Chavs/Morecombe/Barnet etc

One of the fella's in my office is a Middlesboro fan, and laughed out loud when he read the bit about the youth team players. He said Mac didn't do enough and Southgate did it too much. Read into that what you like

The fact that he couldn't make it happen doesn't mean he was conning us, more that the players he brought in either weren't up to the job or were unavailable to him through injury. We will never know what would have happened last season if Miller, Clare and Platt hadn't picked up substantial injuries - but I reckon he would still be the manager of our club. I think this is a book closed moment now he is no longer on the pay roll, good luck to him and Torquay. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)
