If the worst came to the worst and the club was faced with: A- going to the wall and having to start as an AFC Cambridge at the bottom of the pyramid, B- merging to survive at its current level, What would people go for? I think I side with the view that a merged club wouldn't be "my" club.

My Grandad played (quite controversially at the time) for both City and United. I, personally, would not be against the idea of a team called Cambridge City United- for that's what it would be.
I think I'd rather fold and re-start than merge with Histon, though. My heart wouldn't be in it. I'd feel that the Histon part was some kind of parasitic disease.

I can't see what we get out of merging with Histon.
I can't see what City get out of mergin with us.
If we went tits up, we'd probably get put in the bottom division of the Southern League. Worse case scenario would be replacing CRC in Rigeons.

Looks like the dream team are on their way "I'd rather have you and George Rolls in charge." Funny that Premo...George and I have spoken about that in recent days....in fact as recent as 2 hours ago. I have spoken with Kevin Satchell and had chats with key folk at City today. I have had constructive chats with key supporters of United too....shareholder types. Histon Village fans feed back and input has been sincere and useful as always. I need to speak with Russell Hands though....do you have Russells number? LUV SOOTY X ...p.s...the money is sorted. But as said.....for what...is my quest...x @@ ~ Read more: Villagefootball.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=chat&action=display&thread=2287&page=3#ixzz1AUTuVNJ0Today Cambridge Utd, tomorrow the world.

OMG, people start worrying!!!!!
Seriously, do you think Paul Barry would entertain any sort of dialogue with them? He did say he wouldn't sell to anyone who he didn't have the club's interests at heart

It'll depend on how quick he wants out but let's face it if Rolls and the other got together they still would be able to afford it .And as for a merger it one mans idea and let him think what he wants because we all can dream.

I am certain that there would be very little support for a merger, from any direction. On the other hand, if it ultimately might come to pass that some sort of merged club was the only other option to there being no club, then people might feel differently. Let me make it clear that I do not believe that that time is at hand and I would urge everyone who cares about Cambridge United to think about how they might be able to help to preserve our club and develop and enhance it.
There is bound to be a lot of looking over our shoulders to apportion blame for past failings and errors. However, the main focus that we should all keep in our heads is one which looks to the future and how that can be as bright as we can make it.

We'd lose some of the clubs identity whether we merged or reformed as a phoenix club. If we did merge with Histon and/or City, I imagine it would be more of a takeover anyway; our average gate dwarfs the other 2 put together.
With the phoenix club, we'd lose the team name and badge amongst other things. The administrators will want to sell everything lock, stock and barrel rather than just a few naming rights.
What would you rather, 'Cambridge FC' in the BSP or in the Southern league division one?? However, personally, neither sound at all desirable.

Luton seem to be the only 'larger club' in this table of attendance. A positive for the future if Luton manage to go up this season.
