I worked there many years ago, hence the bias. I only spent a short while in Mauritius by comparison and it was lovely, but feel that Seychelles is that little bit more special. We'd love to take the children but even with contacts it is indeed £££ to get there in the first place! Beautiful, beautiful place though. Like Mauritius undergoing a lot of development so worth getting there quick too, if you can...

Mauritius is gorgeous. Been there a few times. Long flight but worth it, usually book whole holiday with BA. Mauritius is a gem, too far for the party animals. The North West of the island is drier. Have been in July and September, their winter. Still @28degrees. Unfortunately there is a lot of Chinese development starting there, so it may change a lot in the next few years, also starting to get many chinese tourists with their selfie sticks. Thanks for that, much appreciated. So essentially, was planning heading somewhere nice ideally in September. With all the Covid uncertainties etc, it was the cancellation/refund/reschedule details of each particular holiday that became as important as the destination itself. To that end a particular one in Mauritius stands out. Would like to go in September (figuring there’d be fewer kids then and hopefully some stability Covid-wise), but if not could just defer it for another time. This particular resort is right on the Southern coast so was curious as to how you found things in September? A bit of Googling suggests the daytime temperatures are perfect and the evening temperatures hold up well too, and the sea would still be warm which is one of the main reasons for wanting to head further afield. In fact, it does seem like an ideal time to go?

Gt Yarmouth off the menu then. Ha, funnily enough am planning a staycation in May (pubs open/kids at school/too soon to risk abroad), but blimey.... good luck finding anywhere that isn’t sold out or that doesn’t require you to sell a kidney to fund it. You’d have hoped there’d be deals around for all budgets as everyone’s going to deserve a holiday after this misery, but unfortunately it doesn’t look like that’s the case at all.

Have been to Mauritius in September, it was lovely. After October it can get very humid and expensive. July to September is best, dry heat and sea is warm. Great snorkelling as well.

We're going on our maiden voyage to Belfast in a couple of weeks, specifically the Titanic quarter. Any tips for good places to sink a drink or some food around the area much appreciated. Don't mind a bit of a walk or a taxi but obviously not looking to go miles. Ta

Reykjavik on New Year's eve was fantastic. They fund their fire brigade and RNLi through selling fireworks which are let off throughout NYE in an utterly chaotic way. The last couple of hours in the cathedral square were incredible, as only random events can be. No organisation just thousands of fireworks being let off from every corner and planter. Never to be forgotten.

I am currently in the old town in Ohrid overlooking the lake. It is probably the most beautiful place I have ever been. Possibly don't go in summer, but out of season, it is absolutely gorgeous.

I've always wanted to go. Had booked to go a few years ago but was exhausted and didn't fancy the bus from Thessaloniki where I was but wish I'd not changed plans. I think the Balkans are at their best in autumn.

Cuba anyone?
I’m going for a fortnight in November, having spotted flights via Madrid at an outrageously cheap price back in January and can’t wait to see the place. Getting currency sorted out on arrival seems rather complicated, but I’ll figure it out.
Anyone got any tips or know of any must sees? I’ll be in Havana for 5 nights, then down to La Boca on the opposite coast for a week then back to Havana. I’m still doing my research and other than where I’m staying, the only fixed plans are rum and cigars.

Never been to Cuba but the Dirty Havana Trilogy by Pedro Juan Gutierrez makes for an interesting read.

We took the bus from Havana to Trinidad and on arrival were mobbed by around a hundred women touting their casa particular. Those we saw looked distinctly dodgy so we were delighted to bag the last room in the bland and boring Iberostar. The bus hit and killed someone on the way back, I saw it happen, the only time I ever saw someone die. Unfortunately it's my abiding memory of Cuba. But don't let that put you off, it's a fantastic country with fantastic people. They say that if you want to compare communism with capitalism, compare Cuba with Jamaica. Pretty much everyone and everything works in Cuba, in Jamaica not so much.
