Does anyone else find the whole thing endlessly complicated? (Those with hair).
I dread going to the hairdressers. I always forget exactly what I asked for the previous time and how it turned out. Every time, whether it's the same place or not I seem to leave with a different haircut. All I want is to leave with shorter hair then when I entered and to not look like a chav.
Went to the hairdresser, which is just next door, this morning, mumbled a request for hair to be taken off my head and what I got was another chav cut. It's sort of a Joey Barton/central European sex offender/young chap who wears too much aftershave takes steroids and walks purposely down Regent Street of a weekend look. Lots of elderly people live on my street and I really don't want to scare them.
Without shaving the whole lot off, how do you know what to ask for?

Take a photograph of a model/personality showing how you want it!

I hate getting my hair cut. The worse part is having to sit there and make conversation that neither you nor the hairdresser wants to be involved in. I wish it was socially acceptable to go in at the start and say something along the lines of 'neither of us want to chat, let's just get this done in silence and not be awkward about it'...

You still in/around Brighton? If so head to Master Wheelers on London Road, opposite St Paul's. Only place I've ever (consistently) had a haircut I'm actually pleased with.

Find a barbers with female "stylists", I bet you would be happy to chat then.....

I haven't had someone cut my hair since 2001. Either clipper it myself or, more often than not, wet-shave it all off.

I'm fairly sure there's a barbers in Milton Keynes where all the stylists are female and work topless.....

I find you can't go wrong if you go into a place that calls itself a 'barber shop' rather than a 'hair dressers' or 'Salon'. I had mine done this week, strolled in waited around 10 minutes while someone else was finishing up, sat down in the chair and asked the fella for a grade three all over. We made chit chat about the cricket and in no time at all I've exactly the haircut I wanted at a very reasonable price and no awkwardness involved.

Of course Barbers are also cheaper - Iv'e been going to the same Barber's for about 20 years, and until a year ago it cost £5 for a one grade all over (its now £7.50). I think the most expensive hair cut is £13 - for a complete wash and cut! Cambridge is full of little barber shops, i always think abut trying elsewhere.... anyone know anywhere that beats that price?

Well I ask for a "number four" up the sides and back and a scissor job up top. I don't have too much hair left and the lower stuff falls out grey. Do not go to a city centre hairdresser though. Go to a back street men's barber shop. They appreciate your custom. And when they ask for £8 I give them a tenner and we are all quite happy.
