Just back from Barrow after a very cold but satisfying 90 minutes.
A very good, professional performance from the U's in which every player played their part.
From back to front we were very good and possible signs for the future are good, although it's best not to get too carried away as Barrow were in poor form and riddled with injuries.
Star man was Robbie Willmott, fantastic yet again. Scored another cracking goal (beat a few players, turn of pace and a very accurate shot into the corner) and laid a beautiful 'head me please' cross for Wayne Gray to nod home.
Carden also had a very good game in midfield, plenty of crunching tackles and his distribution was actually top notch today. A proper captains performance. I didn't go to Eastbourne so didn't see Saah in midfield but today he looked quite decent. No messing about, played the ball simple and no fancy stuff which meant he retained the ball at all times and kept the midfield ticking over.
Danny Wright played well but Wayne Gray was the main man up front. For months i've read and heard people slating him for some reason but for me he's been one of Ling's better signings. He works his arse off week in, week out, doing the hard graft up front, and today his goal was a very good, well directed header that was inch perfect over the 'keepers head and under the bar.
The defence marshalled Barrow well, and despite the goal Barrow's best chance actually came from a Partridge header against his own post! Roberts looked a bit ropey at times but luckily they didn't punish us for it.
A bit of silliness from Jennings towards the end (timewasting when already on a yellow) took away from his own good performance but otherwise a very satisfying day.
Only 70-ish U's fans there to see it, but worth it for the few of us that travelled ;D
Let's hope we can continue this little mini-run when we actually play decent sides, such as Alfreton, Newport, Wrexham and Crawley who we have next!
