Thank you. She loves it. One smile and the pain was (temporarily) gone!

Anyone else signed up to the Northstowe half at the end of August?
I did the Flaming Half last year when it was about 35c by 9am and recorded my slowest ever time, but quite a few recorded DNF’s through fainting heat exhaustion 😬

Also doing Fen Gallop in a month, anyone else?

I'll be doing that half marathon in Northstowe. Despite being a small town, we have two half marathons a year.
The course keeps changing as the town grows, but has been nice each time I've run. Plenty of time away from houses and urban sprawl.
I've signed up to the Flaming June for the past two years, but pulled out both times because I didn't feel up to it.

I've just signed up for the Northstowe half marathon for the end of this month. I did the Bug Hunter Waters Park run for the first time last week which I thought was a lovely course.
I'm doing the GNR a week later but I've been told I should be tailing off my running beforehand so wondering whether to go down to the 10k instead.

You could do a half the week before but I’d take it very steady!

I have started running again with the help of a Garmin Forerunner 255.
I am slow and quite unfit, and doing the 5k coaching plan thing. It's predicting a 31 minute 5k, which compares somewhat badly to my 54-minute 10ks five years ago, but fantastically to the years of inactivity from ill health and injury (torn PCL and rotator cuff) that I've racked up since.
I went too hard to start with and found my achilles complaining quite sharply, but I learnt what an "easy run" actually was and have really started to enjoy myself.
I hope I'm able to keep it up; the improvement to my physical health has been okay, but the improvement to my mental health has been brilliant.

I’ve got the same watch. I wouldn’t pay too much mind to the race predictor. It’s an interesting feature but not particularly accurate. Mine is predicting a 5k time now that is notably slower than the one I ran last Friday.
I think a sore Achilles has to be one of the most common issues for those taking up running. I used to get it a lot, with this unsettling ‘rolling and popping’ sensation when I walked the day after running. I don’t get it now, thankfully.
I’m finally getting back towards the fitness levels I’d reached before my back problem, and I’m grateful for that. You’re absolutely right about the benefits to mental health - the impact a 30-minute run can have amid a stressful day, or even just on one of those days when life feels a little uninspiring, is massive. In fact, it’s just as much of a boost when I’m already feeling good. Running never really lets me down.

I’ve had to switch to the 10k. The legs just don’t seem to have 13 miles in them despite being pretty good with the training plan.
I’ve also signed up to the Prostate United running 5k a day in October again. Will be adding myself to team CUFC shortly.
Big worry is 3 of the days will be in Budapest wit 8 other lads from the shire 😬

The Cambridge Half sold out in exceptionally quick time and I didn’t get a place. If anyone happens to know of anyone who got in but now isn’t planning to do it, let me know!
