Andre Gray charged for homophobic tweets he made four years ago while with non-league Luton.
Why wasn't that picked up four years ago by his club? Did NO ONE reading his Twitter feed report him to the club? I'd like to think if it was United we would be up in arms about one of our players "appearing to condone killing gay people" (as the BBC report it). One of ours quotes a Gabriel lyric and we're all over it the next day for Christ sake!
Whether he's changed or not charging him now just doesn't quite do it for me after such hatred was allowed to pass at the time.

Wasn't it pre-Luton? I imagine that he didn't have many followers before he went to Luton and Hinkley were happy to gloss over it given his scoring record.

Yeah it was when he was still at Hinckley and according to a journo on the radio it was picked up on and was one of the catalysts for the FA bringing in rules about players saying things on Twitter.

Dunno, it was four years ago. I thought he was with Luton around that time...?
I think the point still stands though. *Someone* must have seen the tweets and been offended by them, even if he was at Hinckley at the time. If they did and he was punished by his club at the time it seems even more pointless he's charges for it again now.
Edit: Just seen Rico's post. That's interesting. Why charge him again now if it had already been dealt with?

Here's a predictable but random topic: The toss piece Keith Curle having a moan. Bless him. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/37174262Perhaps he would like some "clarity" on sportsmanship after his display last season?

Another thing I learned recently is that Portsmouth are one of only five teams in the football league to have a 'natural' grass pitch...
...I was pretty surpised by that. I'd have assumed it was much higher.

Is this the daftest rule in football?
"Increasingly aware of the need to compete with the English Premier League for the lucrative overseas television market, La Liga's bosses have realised a game played in front of packed stands provides a much better TV product, conveying a sense of atmosphere and excitement.
To counter the unfortunate fact many Spanish grounds are often well below capacity (not helped by the league's unhelpful fixture scheduling), the authorities have taken the drastic step of introducing a new rule which will see clubs fined if the stand facing the main TV camera is less than 75% full.
The league's rule book "strongly recommends accommodating season-ticket holders and other spectators" in the necessary seating, with judgments to be made on the decidedly low-tech basis of photographs taken by delegates after 30 minutes of each match."

Should all foreign managers be sent to "Learn English so that you can actually communicate properly with everyone associated at your football club and media" camps before they're permitted the chance to manage an English football club?
