If he comes back, will Martin be running a poll to ask if sending him out on loan was a mistake? Yawn. But I will bite. Liam Bennett had already made 10 first team appearances, including 5 starts in the league, a handful of them at least he got MotM before we loaned him out. He'd shown himself to be an exciting and capable player at league 1 level. By comparison, none of these players have made any first team appearances. There isn't really a comparison and sending them out on loan is obviously a good thing. That said, I felt that both Bonner and Harris were too reluctant to play youth players. Although my patience with Monk is incredibly thin, I'm happy that he appears to want to have them in and around the team at such a crucial time. What they lack in experience they will make up in enthusiasm and effort.

We’ve now confirmed as well Feel like this has to signal either a move to 3 at the back or an injury or 2. Or more likely both.

We’ve now confirmed as well Feel like this has to signal either a move to 3 at the back or an injury or 2. Or more likely both. Okedina has been playing in the international break, there’s pictures of Rossi training and Morrison looked fine in town on Friday night so I doubt it’s an injury crisis. I should imagine it’s just Monk demonstrating a lack of any sort of managerial ability, by taking Jobe out of play-off push where he’s clearly going to gain much more useful experience than being here while Monk “has a look at him”.

If that were true I'd be appalled. He's having an excellent season there, seems well loved, and has a chance going to Wembley twice. It'd be short-sighted and, with the chance of two Wembley finals, outright meanspirited if he's come back for any reason other than to go straight into our first team and for now I chose to believe Monk at least has a basic level of competency not to do that.
If he does want to 'take a look' either trust the scouting feedback or go and see him yourself. Gateshead played last Saturday when we didn't, and on Tuesday.
He's starting. I've convinced myself he's nailed in.

And so he should! Okedina went off injured, Rossi has played barely any football and Rennet may have checked out in some way related to his current form. Monk needs all the help he can get and goodness knows we’ve had loans recalled on us before at inconvenient times. Sadly this is not about player development time. We are in the sh!t and every fit, contracted player needs to be available for selection. It’s Monk’s job to find a way of winning so that’s one call he’s got right. Hoping we might see some evidence of other good calls from him very soon as there haven’t been many so far.

Monk maybe recalling the younsters as a way of watching them in training and weighing them up for next season in wahtever division we are in. Monk may also be trying to motivate the older players into being more positive knowing they are not automatic selections. Either way, next seson looks good.

Have to believe he’s coming back with a view to finishing the season as a regular partner for Morrison. He will be full of confidence and is actually used to playing in a winning team, so hopefully some of that will rub off on the others.
If he’s not starting, then it just smacks of a head coach who wants to be seen to be doing the right thing. “Look at me, I’m doing everything I can by bringing back those out on loan” it would actually be dreadful man management, any confidence Jobe has gained would be knocked out of him instantly the minute the team is announced if he’s not starting.

Hopefully he has watched him play and made the decision. I remember in the conference the year Jimmy Quinn kept us up that we recalled the likes of Dan Gleeson & Chillingworth to play as they actually cared for the shirt. Maybe it will be similar in this run in. Get Jobe in and Mannion, Okedina. I don't care if i don't see Stevens or Rennett again this season.

I get the sentiment, but I'd hope he's got a bit more mental resilience about him than to lose confidence the moment he's not first name on the team sheet.
If he (or anyone else in the squad) is that mentally fragile, playing professional football probably isn't the right career choice for them. It's an environment that inevitably means several players miss out each week. They need to be ready and able to cope with that and affect change themselves with how they respond.

Don't be so quick to jump to conclusions, he may not start on Saturday, he may just be brought back to shore up the squad if we do have injuries in the last few games of the season. We know that Okedina went off injured in the game for Malawi, we have no idea how serious that is (or what treatment was available to him out there), and Rossi has been one of our more injury-prone defenders this season. Personally, I can see Rennett and Morro starting on Friday; the only chance of Jobe getting in the team is if we change shape and play 3 at the back.
Fine, I understand that he has been doing well at Gateshead, but that is 2 steps below League 1, a level he has never played at; is this another example of a player not in our side enhancing his reputation and worth based on what is in the side?

The performance levels of Rennett recently have been way below national league level. We’re also just coming off the back of 2 thrashings, in which both Centre backs were at fault for various goals. If we play the same two CBs yet again…. I can almost hear the cheer from from the Barnsley changing room already.

It's an environment that inevitably means several players miss out each week. They need to be ready and able to cope with that and affect change themselves with how they respond. If you’re referring to Jobe then I don’t think anyone has said he should be the first name on the team sheet. But he’s returning from a loan in which he’s played a major part in a successful team, his confidence is going to be sky high, he’ll have felt wanted and felt like he’s contributing to victories. That should be the reason we’ve recalled him. He should be told that he can come in and make a difference in a struggling team who are being let down on a weekly basis by experienced players, some of whom are playing in his position. He has to earn the right to stay in the team, but he absolutely should be given that chance. This isn’t just a knee jerk reaction, Rennett has been poor for a number of weeks now. Okedina seems to have picked up an injury, Rossi missed the Reading game with a knock, Jobe is the next cab off the rank. He’s been playing regularly at a decent level, clearly enjoying his football, let’s not halt that momentum by having him sitting on the bench watching Rennett wave his arms about as another goal goes in. I’m not expecting him to be the saviour, but there comes a time when you have to throw them in the deep end. He’ll have Morrison and Andrew back there to help him. He deserves his chance.
