For a towering genius, he was completely approachable and (which is not always the case) absolutely generous with his knowledge. He is a big loss to the world.
Hawking chose to make his lifelong home in Cambridge, so I don't think it would be inappropriate to celebrate his life with a minute's applause on Saturday. How about it CUFC?

Out of interest, did he ever attend a game or comment on the U’s?

Out of interest, did he ever attend a game or comment on the U’s? Given the intelligentsia associated with our fine club I’d be staggered if he hadn’t.

He certainly is a great loss to the world, I think a minute's applause (I have learned to accept that a minutes silence just doesn't happen anymore) would be quite apt though not aware of any links to our club.

Lad. His reckless wheel chair driving was legendary. Not sure it was always deliberate, must be pretty hard seeing where you’re going when you can’t move your head.
Never mind living 55 years longer than medical experts predicted, having seen him cross busy roads a few times, I think it’s a wonder he was never involved in a serious traffic accident!

Amazing really that someone so famous was right on our doorstep and part of everyday Cambridge life.
Happened to be seeing a client at St. John’s in 2015 and completely unexpectedly Hawking was filming the Comic Relief sketch in an adjacent room. Was lucky enough to watch some of that being filmed which all seemed a little surreal at the time.
The good lady visited his place near the Granta on occasion when he was assessed for space flight which was apparently something he wanted to do! Was known to enjoy a noisy house party too. What a guy.
Will make an effort to watch The Theory of Everything which for some reason missed the first time around.
Don’t think anyone really knows how he managed 50 odd years more than he should have done.
RIP.

I was just reading about his time travellers party. He sent the invites out after it had happened and if anyone turned up it meant time travel was possible. Nobody did and he sat there for the evening with a load of expensive champagne on ice and uneaten canapes! Brilliant.
