.... if it isn't hammering down walk with the pooch from Newnham to Granchester across the meadows, have lunch at the Green Man or Rupert Brook (both dog friendly) then amble back. I would recommend the Blue Ball Inn when in Grantchester - less pretentious, fewer tourists, lower prices, better food, well kept beer/ale.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Yes weather was awful so came up with a wet weather plan. We went to the lockhouse escape games which was great fun on regent street and then a platter at the brewhouse. Yum. Will be checking some of those walks out though with the dog. It even brightened up later on so got a sunny walk in later. We've got a whippet and he's ace. Was thinking about the walks and would really recommend driving to Lode and parking up in Mill Road very close to the Mill, at the back of what is Anglesey Abbey. There are five or six different walks there, to Stow Cum Quy, across Quy Fen, Swaffham Prior, Reach, or if you are feeling really fit over to Upware or even Wicken. The good news about those walks is there are lots of wide open spaces with no roads or traffic. A whippet would safely be able to open up at full revs and have a great time. There’s plenty of water about if he’s mad about that too. You can kind of doctor those walks to suit as they tend to interconnect so don’t really need to plan it too much if you just fancy a quick walk. A few pubs about if you fancy lunch or just open spaces if you want some time away from everybody. The Fulbourn walk can be fun too. Park up at the end of Stonebridge Lane (which runs alongside the manor) and follow your nose. After a 5 or 10 minutes you’ll see Fleam Dyke and you can head up there and walk forever or just head left before the Dyke to Great Wilbraham for a shorter walk if you prefer.
