Congratulations on your 85th Birthday earlier on in the year. But brown sauce (HP / Daddies) is called brown sauce because it's brown, so it would be a bit strange to ask for brown sauce if you wanted barbecue sauce, because you would probably get the wrong type. Haha...85 in spirit but not yet in body! Your bbq/brown sauce point is perhaps a fair one. Brown sauce doesn't taste of a particular ingredient, and calling it tomato, date and tamarind sauce wouldn't have been that catchy. Tomato sauce, however, is tomato flavoured and made primarily of tomatoes. That's why it is called tomato sauce. My mum never asked me to pass the green sauce when we had roast lamb for Sunday lunch! We always call Mint Sauce "Lamb Sauce" in our house!

No sauce required on a bacon roll, just an egg with a runny yolk. Brown is acceptable in the absence of egg if a bit of extra moisture feels necessary. Proper butter, not marge or any other crap substitute is always required in any sarnie/roll eating situation.

Butter on a bacon roll is the devils work 👎
I’m also noticing a lack of mustard in this thread. Just a little Colemans will do, put hair on your chest! Proper mustard, not this pansy weak mustard the Yanks use

Proper crispy bacon. Sauce optional.
Mustard on a hot dog though. Superb.

I’d never put mustard on bacon, but it’s essential on a sausage sarnie.
