Printed in our monthly village Magazine was the following warning[/div]
CHRISTMAS SCAM ALERT FROM CAB
Christmas is fast approaching. Royal Mail and the Trading Standards Office are making people aware of the following scam. A card is posted through your door from a company called PDS ( Parcel Delivery Service) suggesting that they were unable to deliver a parcel and that you need to contact them on 0906 661911 ( a premium rate number)
If you call the number and you start to hear a recorded message, you will already have been billed £315 for the phone call. If a client does receive a card with these details, then please contact Royal Mail Fraud on 020 7239 6655 or your local Trading Standards Office.

That scam was shut down in 2005 and the number in question hasn't been in use since then. The scam was comprehensively rebuked as far back as 2011. www.theguardian.com/money/2011/nov/04/parcel-delivery-service-pds-premium-numberNo phone number will bill you £300+ just for calling. The most expensive numbers you're able to call in the UK are: 09XX numbers, which incur a £6 access charge and no more than £3.60 a minute. 118 XXX numbers have a £4.50 access charge and £4.50 a minute charge and are used for directory enquiries.
