I just saw Josh Coulson getting a strawberry Ribena water and some crisps in Cherry Hinton Tesco Express. That is all.

Several major differences, Dave. For example, local and national newspaper journalists and top sports stars/'celebrities' use Twitter, with some big news stories resulting from 'tweets'.
It's not just people saying 'I've just had breakfast'. If you follow the right people/organisations then your twitter feed can provide a one-stop shop for all your daily news, plus some pretty quirky stuff.
If you use conforum (which you do), many of the humorous stories and events that are flagged up on there have initially been brought to the person's attention on twitter.
So it's not Facebook status updates and nothing else.

You can only see your friends' statuses on Facebook whereas on Twitter you can gauge opinion to events within a range of followers, within an area or around the world.
Admittedly there can be some crap on there - the trending topics often have at least one to do with Justin Bieber or Harry Potter - but it's also a valuable information source, breaking stories; I'm sure you don't need reminding of the impact Twitter was reported to have had on the Middle Easten protests. It can also be useful for finding information on a more personal level - EPL team sheets are generally available on there far before they're reported on the traditional online news outlets, for example, and when we had a powercut recently, I used a Twitter search to see how far its effects were being felt. And of course, while I appreciate some people have no interest in celebrity culture, I find some of the people on there very interesting.

Indeed. I shared Dave's ignorance on Twitter for a long time, even signing up once and still not 'getting' it.
But this time I'm finding it very useful/interesting/entertaining. I've had to unfollow a couple of people because they tweet too often or mostly trivial stuff.
However, many of the journalists and footballers on there do have some worthwhile things to say and it is pretty cool to get reponses from people who you would otherwise be quite unlikely to come into contact with.

I can still make a word out of that which is equally apt for George! Edit: I'm suddenly very conscious of the fact that, having admitted to unfollowing people for posting 'trivial' stuff, I've tweeted a story involving a man in women's underwear who stabbed a goat, and a video of a dog 'talking'
