I'm always having conversations with my cat Poppy. In fact I love talking to all animals. I talk to my friends pets: cats, dogs, horses fish, others. When I'm outside I talk to trees flowers,squirrels.... I love nature and animals

I wouldn't want to meet the person who didn't talk to animals! What strange people they must be.
I often say hello to dogs before I say hello to the owner, they're usually much friendlier anyway.

My wife and I probably spend more time talking to our cats than each other (I guess that after 20+ years together we're running out of things to say) although I should point out that many of the conversations involve phrases like "Shut up I just fed you ten minutes ago" "That's not your seat and you know it" "I can smell it but where the hell is it?" "Get your fat furry head out of the fridge/bin/cupboard/sink" "Are those your muddy paw prints all over the table?" "AAAAARRRRGGHHHHH!!!! That's my b******s you little ****!!!!"
.....and so on. We love them really..........

Although I am not a dog owner at the moment I have been in the past and do love dogs.
Often when I am out I will notice a dog before the owner.
Dogs are a lot more intelligent than most people give them credit for.
I remember some years back when my brother was going to Tenerife for Christmas with his wife.
He was going to put his dog in kennels for the duration of his holiday.
I said to him don't I will look after her.
Well, in the mornings I would take her down to the local recreation ground with her toy and play with her .
In the evenings being the time of the year and dark I would take her for a shorter walk in the opposite direction .
Well, on the 3rd evening I almost got to the end of my road when she started pulling to the left telling me I know we go
this way in the evenings.
Just 2 days and she had worked out the routine.

“I love nature and animals” It was only when I got my wonderful Border Collie three years ago that I truly came to appreciate animals and nature in the way they should be. I’m very lucky that she’s out with me every day and we are able to walk for miles and miles on our own. I talk to her all the time and it’s amazing how much she understands. The bond is very special and it’s allowed me to see things and appreciate nature in a way that was lost before. I’d never really ‘got’ the fens, but the solace, the big sky, and the huge open spaces are amazing and very beneficial to your well-being, both physically and mentally. There is a lot of evidence recognising animals can be very good for people too. Here’s a picture of ‘Bess’ in the setting sun on Fleam Dyke last summer. Attachment Deleted

Border Collies are recognised as being the most intelligent breed of dogs but because of this require more attention than
some breeds as I believe they can get bored the same as us.
P.s Apparently they can remember up to 1000 words

She needs a huge amount of stimulation and it would be terrible for her (or any collie) to be stuck in a house all day. It’s why I waited until my lifestyle was conducive to dog ownership and went full-on with a collie.
She’s my sidekick and my wife knows I have another woman in my life, but she loves her too!

Articles like that and programmes such as ‘One man and his dog’, and the variety stuff where Collies do tricks can be misleading. Some potential owners see the intelligence and the perceived loyalty of a Collie and think it’s exactly what they want, but hugely underestimate the time and effort involved, never mind the deep level of concentration and observational skills required from the owner too. Collies can be very independent and reluctant pets, and the loyalty has to be earned. My relationship with her has layers I’d never have imagined but they do keep you on your toes and even now you have to be switched on at all times. I suppose the same applies with all pet ownership. You have to go into it with your eyes wide open. It angers me when people act on a whim and the animal suffers when things don’t work out. Animals love unconditionally, it’s a shame humans don’t do the same.

I did read the other day that "food banks are not just for Christmas" which made me chuckle.
