What are people listening to? This tune will get you moving. It’s from a punk band called Penetration from Durham/Newcastle way. The song came out about 40 years ago! Nuts and Sheffyoos will know what I am on about.

Yep, great tune that one Shubs. I'm not one for pigeonholing bands but I always though Penetration is more like post punk/new waveish than proper punk. Or am I contradicting myself now?!? Anyways, I had Moving Targets on cd but I think I lent it to someone and whoever it was thought they'd keep it. 'Cos why not like?

Top class Vanni-you have picked out 3 superb bands there, all of whom it was my privilege to see at the Corn Exchange. Yeah, reckon you are right about Penetration, they were in the 2nd wave after the Clash, Pistols, Damned etc. Incredible days for live music.
The weekend was always sorted-Corn Exchange on Fridays and the Us on Saturdays. Great, great days!

Top stuff. The Damned were the first band I ever saw live way way back.......scary to think that I went to their 10th birthday party bash in Finsbury Park and in 2026 (all being well) they'll be celebrating their FIFTIETH. Full marks for The Ruts as well. An old mate from the indie revival days of the late 80s/early 90s (Mega City Four , Senseless Things , Neds Atomic Dustbin , Wonderstuff etc) has wangled the job of a lifetime and is now their guitarist. Spawny git

Nuts and Sheffyoos will know what I am on about. Fantastic thread Shubs. Every early 1980's visit down to Cambridge always involved a visit to Andy's records. First the one on Regent Street and then on to the one at the market. Not sure what one it was but I purchased a Penetration album from the market stall around that time. A white cover with a picture of the band in an inset square. No track listings, one side was demos, the other live.

I started out by randomly selecting a cd from my 'N-Z plus various artists' CD wallet/suitcase each morning, but since happening upon the New Model Army section a couple of weeks ago I haven't wanted to move away from it yet.

Great shout. New Model Army were superb live. Saw them loads in the 80s including once in Madrid when I was living out there. Vengeance will get you moving on a Saturday morning!!
Sheffyoos, great call about Andy’s Records. IIRC, there was the shop on Mill Road, the stall on the market, and the one on Regent Street was called The Beat Goes On. There was even a cinema advert for Andy’s with a group of cartoon runners all racing to get to the shop!

Digging around in the man cave and came across this. Gave it a runout for the first time in more than 3 decades. Must’ve been about 16 when I bought it (Edit - bought it in a little shop while on holiday in Ayr (see kids, you’ll never have that with digital)). Appears there are a few of us on here from a similar vintage. Great memories....

Been thinking about Camera Obscura lately but haven't got round to listening for some reason, only have short child-free windows I suppose. Did listen to the Wave Pictures album Instant Coffee Baby yesterday, which I love, and quite a bit of James when in the mood.
