Great performance from England at Old Trafford.Glad we dont have 4 day Test Matches.
Batting picks itself for the 3rd Test on Friday but after 2 back to back Tests and the third coming right away at the same venue I am not sure what the attack will be.
Possibly Leach for Bess and Anderson for ?
Very hard to call.

Yes. Hopefully that rubbishes the 4-day argument. We’d have far more draws/no results in the U.K. simply due to our climate. Maybe it would be an option for overseas countries where the weather is more predictable. I’m a big fan of 5 day matches regardless though.
Possibly drop Woakes and Curran for Anderson and Archer. It depends if England are feeling brave enough to have 2 spinners or if they give Leach an opportunity instead of Bess just to mix it up a bit. It would be a big call. For all we know, this new wicket may behave totally differently though and Old Trafford was always a pace bowler type wicket.
Controversial I know (and England won’t do it) but possibly give Ben Foakes a go instead of Buttler? Buttler hasn’t been in great form with the bat although I think we can all excuse his second innings dismissal. Every time he comes out to bat I’m willing him to get a big score as he’s so capable!

Buttler out, Foakes in. Not sure how Foakes keeps getting overlooked - he's probably the best proper wicketkeeper in the country and very handy with the bat. Maybe his face doesn't fit with the skipper and his mates?
Buttler is amazing at pyjama hit 'n giggle cricket, but Test Cricket seems to be a step too far for his technique*.
*Cue two double centuries next Test

I thought Foakes should have played in the second test after Buttler's meagre contributions and dropping Blackwood, arguably a match-turner.

Buttler has done okay this series with 2 starts, one failure & I think it would be unfair to count that 4th innings against him (or Crawley/Root) as he had to go out slogging and got unlucky. That dropped catch was poor but think I heard it was his only drop in a year or something along those lines. Think his leadership is appreciated in a fairly inexperienced team too & I have no qualms about his technique, it's the mental side letting him down a bit switching between formats (think Root is having similar problems since becoming world class in ODIs he's dropped off massively in Tests). It's a shame Foakes isn't a little bit better & it would be an easy swap but I'm sure he'll get a chance at some point. Will be interesting to see what we do with the bowlers. Anderson & Archer to come in for Woakes and Curran I imagine & that weakens the batting so assume Bess will get the nod over Leach.

The "Experts" on TMS reckon Leach will play, if only because the WI have only played one left hander in the series so far, playing to his left arm deliveries spinning the ball away from the right handers. It's a shame we haven't developed a truly world class slow bowler since Graeme Swann retired voluntarily in the middle of getting thrashed to all parts by Australia..

Leach not in the squad for tomorrow so I guess that ends that argument. Shame as I really rate him (although Dom Bess has generally impressed me too).
Broad, Anderson, Stokes, Archer and Bess for the bowlers then?

Broad, Anderson, Stokes, Archer and Bess for the bowlers then? Looks likely, although Wood, Curran and Woakes all have a claim to a place. We must bring Archer back in though. He made a silly mistake, has had his punishment. Now is time to welcome him back, not to do so would be akin to ostracising him.

I agree. Whoever misses out can feel hard done by. Despite both teams being relatively well matched, it’s obvious to me that England have so much more strength in depth especially in the bowling department. It could be crucial after lots of days in the field in a short amount of time.

Leach would give you left arm spin v right handers and with Curran probably dropped there will not be as much rough outside the right hander off stump. Another CB9 postcode

Will weaken the batting but from all accounts Archer has been really quick in the nets and Jimmy is Jimmy. Another CB9 postcode

Well we got it half right. I wasn’t expecting Crawley to be dropped. I thought maybe Pope would be the unlucky one. Generally I think the team is balanced especially if the weather plays a big part.
