I’d suggest Prana on Mill Road. They seem to be regularly winning awards and one of their walls has lots of certificates and nominations for their chefs etc. Make of that what you will but it seems a fair indicator to me.
Not particularly cheap but if you are looking to enjoy a curry on its merits rather than one to just soak up a few pints then I’d recommend.
Was in there the other night in fact and will give them credit for the way they are dealing with the covid situation too - they seem to be acting very responsibly without killing the atmosphere dead like some other eateries have. Sure, it’s not ‘quite’ the same, but a decent effort nonetheless.

Funnily enough have never been in so only know what I’ve read on here and you guys seem to rate it very highly. Not sure how we can really rate things first/second etc when we all like different things and prioritise different aspects of a restaurant experience, but the ‘Covid affect’ is a complete game-changer for everyone. Getting the balance right of good housekeeping, hygiene, table spacing etc etc, just enough to enable you to relax and feel safe, but without killing the atmosphere and making you feel like some sort of laboratory experiment is a real toughie. Prana was relatively good in that respect, but in all honesty, it’s just not the same. Perhaps nowhere is or can realistically be expected to be, and that makes me quite sad. This new normal is just a bit pants however you look at it.

Pipasha for me if you are looking for a good English stylee curry, Taj is not bad but I think Prana is too pricey for fairly standard stuff.
I must admit I haven't tried the posher places, what used to be the Bird in Hand & the newer place on Mill Rd.

Have to be honest and say I’ve never been as disappointed with a meal than at The Bird in Hand.
No problem with paying top dollar on occasion as long as you are getting what you paid for. At that price point it stretches way beyond the food itself - the general ambience, decor, toilets, service, attention to detail has to be spot on and the BiH it really isn’t. In fact it was quite shabby and I actually felt a bit mugged off if I’m honest, and that’s not a feeling that is likely to make you recommend it or rush back.
That was about 3 years ago and they are still open so they must be doing something right, but honestly, that visit was a shocker.

Always looks empty when I walk past. I preferred the bird in hand.

In normal times Taj on Cherry Hinton Road would be the one, for the atmosphere as much as the food.
Golden Curry went a couple of years ago.

Thought the upmarket place on mill road (Atithi) was decent when I went. . Better than the bird in hand one anyway. Is a bit pricier than your standard place as you’d expect. Not sure it’s re-opened post lockdown. If you want something a bit different Nivedyam (Formerly called cocum) on castle hill is a good South Indian styled place , and while it’s a bit grotty decor wise Banana leaf on MIlton road does some amazing South Indian / Sri Lankan fare.

My neighbour does a good curry, you know. From Dhakar originally, he trained over here along with a certain A Hye at the Rajbalash on Hills Rd. Mr Hye is the co-owner of many years' standing of Pipasha.
