Although Vinery Road is still in Romsey, in all my years living there, I only knew it as Vinery Rd rec!

I think we were the same until the council put a sign up once and it was entitled Romsey Recreation Ground. I suspect, imp, it was the 'other' school connotation that meant most made a point of continuing with Vinery anyway!

Are you saying there was a rivalry between two schools, not more than 400 yards apart, either side of Mill Road? Surely not!

I must disappoint you chaps and reassure you Morley were YELLOW and black. Horrible. It's a bit like people waxing lyrical about our promotion kit in 1972/73 when we reverted back from the all white strip. That was nearer to daffodil than amber although people's memories get hazy. Nah. Not having that Nuts. Morley was most definitely Amber and Black, at least the 1975 kit was. We played a local final on Parkers Piece, 1975ish, against a school wearing the Arsenal kit. Lost 3-2. Any idea what school would wear such colours?

We won 4-3 and wore Arsenal style kit, although we wore red and blue instead of red and white.

They all seemed about 18 when we played them!

Can’t remember Fawcett’s kit but remember that they had weird, hockey style goals at their place in Trumpington.

Priory were yellow and blue by the way, just asked an old mucker Gary Saunders who kept goal for them early to mid 70s. He went on to Chesterton which was unusual for Priory. Clevers to Netherhall, Catholics to St Bedes and divs to you know where.
