What an album, blue vinyl, signed by Messrs Harper, Garrett, Slack and Davies at the Beat Goes On on the Saturday morning post Friday's gig at the Corn Exchange- 1979? Eek. Charlie's still going isn't he, early 80s? Shubs will know.
I wonder how Tomorrow's Girls really shaped up?

Thanks for the reminder nuts. Just started playing that album after reading your post.
I saw them at the Corn exchange around that time. Mostly though all I can recall of gigs at that time was showers of flob flying, elbows and jumping up and down non-stop and ending up ears ringing with aches and pains masked by all that adrenaline. I think I saw them more than once there but memory plays tricks on the mind over time. Like the saying goes, the better you can remember it the less likely you were there. Apparently he is 76. That was all before the council fitted some kind of noise limiter. Not sure how that really worked but it became a standing joke in the very early eightees.
Loved seeing those iconic bands but for venues preferred the sea cadets hall and great Northern local scene bands like the soft boys and later 13th chime.

What a band! Saw them many times back in the day-thanks for the reminder chaps. Nicky Garrett was an absolute lunatic on the guitar-used to climb up on the stacks, dive into the crowd etc etc. One of my personal favourites is Emotional Blackmail which was on the 2nd album.

There's a version of them still doing the rounds including Charlie Harper - they used to play a regular annual gig at my local venue before Covid put a stop to that. Another proud owner of Tomorrow's Girls in blue vinyl.

Yeah, top local bands and venues Nuts. Do you remember the Sound Cellar on Hills Road too? Proper old dingy basement with loads of bands on. The Northern was probably my favourite venue as I always used to get served when I was under age!
Anyone remember a band called What Noise? They were excellent and a couple of my Netherhall mates were in it. They supported 13th Chime quite a few times.

I can't say I'm a big Subs fan (I prefer my punk to be somewhat rawer and more political) but I've always felt Another Kind of Blues to be somewhat underrated in punk circles. The complete opposite of massively overrated albums by certain other punk bands like......*cough cough* The Clash.
I do empathise with Mark of Carnage, because I'm also one who is terrible with recollections of gigs I've been to. However in my case it's not how many times I saw some band or other but rather the date/year and place. Matters then get more complicated when a big name like The Cure play two consecutive nights in the same venue and I can't recall if I was there on the first night or the second. Arrggghhhh.

Not a Clash fan then Vanni? Hand on heart I have to say that they are the best band I have ever seen-the energy, anger and power was just immense. They were all also really good musicians who produced some brilliant tunes. Don’t start me or I will bore you all day!😉

Janie Jones? One of my top five of all time. Talking of under/overrated, Terry Chimes was surely the most underrated sticks man of all time?

I went to the Watchfield Free Festival in 1975 and still remember being blown away by the 101'ers who included Joe Strummer, my first experience of real music.

Yeah, Terry Chimes was good but Topper Headon was even better IMO. Didn’t he play with the London Symphony or London Philharmonic or something?
Yeah the 101ers kicked out some really good sounds. Strummer joined up with Jones and Simonen when he moved to West London and the rest is history.

Don’t start me or I will bore you all day!😉 I do have a couple Clash albums on vinyl and another one on cd so it's not that I can't stand their music or anything, it's just that I believe that some of their stuff is overrated. For instance, the London Calling double album has always been over hyped by the music press/critics. The debut album is decent enough I guess but the follow up is only average and Sandinista is simply a poor record IMO. I'm sure they were all great musicians and I'm also sure they were excellent on stage but I can't help feeling a little underwhelmed when I listen to most (but not all) of their stuff.

HA HA. Stoke’s finest eh? Saw them once and they got through their set of 12 songs in 10 minutes!! They had a 5 minute break and then played the whole set again. Priceless!
