What are we thinking then? I'm currently inconsolable having submitted to BT's offering(via Sky) for a couple of months. That said they have all the games in the Caribbean early next year - Sky have got so lazy with England cricket overseas.
Anderson out, clearly his last series, and Pope instead of Bairstow. Am I feeling confident? No. Let's hope the U's can set the tone at Whaddon Rd beforehand.

Worth saving Jimmy for the day nighter(s) given the others will be run into the ground.

I had forgotten it was on BT. Just picked it up too for the next six weeks. Looking forward to it but with no confidence, don't think we have the batting. Don't mind Bairstow missing out but not sure Pope will necessarily be any better this series, it may just set him up better for future series at home and abroad.

59-4 at lunch on day one. Honestly, I just wish I was even slightly surprised.

My son was listening to a podcast recently from Australia where a few Aussie players from the late 80s and 90s were talking about Ashes series those years between Botham and 2005 when they were never beaten. They were saying that though the Australian team was obviously very good, England had very good players too they often made a news of the selection. I wonder whether you this will be the case here, too.
Though of course mentality, technique and quality are probably the things letting us down.

Quite predictable really. Shocking lack of preparation before the first test, caused by a mix of weather and Covid issues, which can't be helped. You get the feeling though that this is the start of a very disappointing test series where the players will be happy to leave as soon as they can!

Not sure what's worse the commentary or our batting? BT coverage really is piss poor, if only Sky would dump their coverage of US sports and get back the full rights to the Ashes and England cricket.

Yeah I only saw a few mins this morning but commentary not a patch on Sky. Nasser, Atherton and others are so good.

BT are doing this on the cheap, using as much of the Australian offering as they can instead of sending a team of UK commentators/broadcast crew out there. That may be because of Covid, but one thing I don't want to hear is gloating Aussie commentators if/when we are getting a pasting!

Yeah it's not great company or analysis. We get a few graphics but not the sort of insight either in terms of commentary or visuals we would be used to on Sky or Channel 4. Aussies commentating are very fair (are they just shipped in from the Fox rooms where they commentate for Australian audience to do a few mins for international viewers including BT?) but repetitive and basic stuff.

Weak, ineffective leadership is dominating the headlines this morning. All that applies to English Cricket to. The ECB are reaping what they sowed by appointing Giles & Silverwood who are both yes men out of their depth. Root is a poor captain as well and needs removing and just playing as a Batsman. Same mistakes and excuses trotted out after each series loss. Can't see anymore than a 5-0 loss. Yes the weather and restrictions havent helped but team selection and batting first cost the test before a ball was bowled.

I thought that Robinson, Woakes and Wood all bowled relatively well, very well in some cases. They looked like decent Test players in any case. Issue then is that when Leach offers no control or variation and Stokes is out of practice, you increase the workload on those three and against a good batting líne up you suffer as they tíre.
But however well they could have bowled and if we had taken our chances, would we then be able to battle enough with the bat to win or save a game or even make it competitive?

Better day today. Hameed battled well I thought, shame he couldn't hang around but he had done some of the work in taking the shine off the ball to the benefit of Root. Malan did well to stay around even if I never quite felt he was really set. Root was excellent, some lovely straight drives my highlight.
Interesting day tomorrow and it could be a collapse for us but glad we actually turned up.

Good to see some fight in the team; probably not going to change the ultimate outcome of the test, but will have given the Aussies something to ponder over if they thought they could roll us over cheaply twice in the match. You do sense though that we are one wicket from a collapse, especially if it is Root.
