Will there be a minute’s silence in respect of the recent terrible events in Israel? Well, if we've had a minute's silence for the death of a terrorist from another hemisphere...

Well, if we've had a minute's silence for the death of a terrorist from another hemisphere... ? We held a minutes silence years ago for a terrorist from a different hemisphere, utterly utterly absurd and still something that defies belief even now.

Will there be a minute’s silence in respect of the recent terrible events in Israel? Who knows? But there had better be no more taking the knee after the vile crap BLM have come out with since the weekend.

Will there be a minute’s silence in respect of the recent terrible events in Israel? Regardless of your views on the horrors in the Middle-East, and as a very left-wing Irishman you can probably guess what mine are, why would a minute's silence at a third division football game in England be in anyway appropriate? A minute's silence/applause should only be appropriate in the case of the death of someone or something connected to the home club or town. I find it in the worst possible taste that the game thinks it is so important that it can force people to mourn before a game that for many is an escape from all the misery, death and hatred in the world. The people affected will be far too busy to worry about U's or Shrews, I can assure you. Apart from confusing a few lads who are a gallon of beer deep, or lead to all football fans being accused of being morons for not towing a line they may not be aware of, what exactly would this achieve? There are far, far more suitable ways and places for people to show solidarity with those suffering across the world than The Abbey, or any other football ground thousands of miles away, on a Saturday afternoon

The gesture, in this case, is simply to raise awareness about racism in the game of football. Whether you think that gesture should be made before a match, and what value it has, is a separate debate.

I don't think it's been 'black lives matter' for ages, has it? That seemed to upset a section of people - for whatever reasons, makes your own peace - so it's...'no room for racism' now, I think. As far as I'm aware It never had anything to do with Black Lives Matter the social movent group...always the source of a lot of anger so maybe it's for the best they changed the wording 🤷♂️.
There's a minutes silence for Israel and Palestine victims before the England game on Saturday so I'd assume we'll see the same on the weekend. The FA aren't taking sides though, rightfully so I'd guess...when you have words like apartheid and terrorism being associated with either country taking a side isn't a position I'd particularly respect from the FA.
Christ, roll on Saturday. I'd don't know what scope we have for changes really. I'd fancy a change for Lankester but I don't think we have the availability to facilitate it just yet...May probably isn't quite there, and Cousins probably isn't fit enough to free up Thomas. If Saikou is fit to start I'd have him on the left with Gordon and Kai a little out of sorts. I'd keep faith with Bennett at full back for sure for now.

There are far, far more suitable ways and places for people to show solidarity with those suffering across the world than The Abbey, or any other football ground thousands of miles away, on a Saturday afternoon The problem is the FA are crapping themselves as they've set various precedents recently by the pre-game periods of silence for many different global tragedies but they don't want to be seen taking sides too much in this instance, especially with the current ownership models of some of the big Premiershite teams

I do wonder if the impact of the minute of silence (or applause) is being slightly eroded with it being used almost every other week for something or other. It is of course absolutely right to honour and remember our own members of the CUFC family, but when it starts to cover global issues well away from The Abbey it lessens the overall impact of the gesture. I have to say though, I thought that the in-game minute for Josh Vickers at Derby was truly special.

I have to say though, I thought that the in-game minute for Josh Vickers at Derby was truly special. This is the rub of it. Remember going to match last year and having to enquire what the minutes silence was for. Earthquake in Turkey apparently, while obviously tragic, is a minutes silence at League one match in Yorkshire relevant or helpful? I mean I don't condone it happening for The Queen either, but at least it's understandable being in this country. Save it for the real issues - those of the club's involved, local issues or those pertaining to our country. You could feasibly do it before every match otherwise, the world is a horrible place, and it devalues doing it when it does apply. Worst case you can get into "well, why a minutes silence for Israel, but not the ethnic cleansing in Nagorno Karabakh or Myanmar or....".

Will there be a minute’s silence in respect of the recent terrible events in Israel? And Palestine? Or just Israel? The 400+ Palestinian children already dead are innocent too.

Despite the recent wording from the English FA there is no country called Palestine just 2 separate contested & semi autonomous territories under Israeli control but definitely both Israelis & Palestinians have suffered from inhumane acts of cruelty & murder
