Looking forward to this. Been a while since I’ve actually felt like that for an away game. Not expecting us to win, but I do think the emphasis will be on how we can hurt them, rather than how we stop them hurting us. A bit of belief, organisation and resilience can hopefully lead to an enjoyable Away day and a point or 3.

For anyone who has been to the Valley before, what is the best way to get there train wise? Am planning to get a train to Charlton from London Bridge. Any advice appreciated ! Driving to Epping, tube to Stratford and Docklands to Woolwich. About 20 min walk through Woolwich centre and alongside the Thames to the Valley. Heard the station gets quite crowded post game although trains are very frequent. I'll be proceeding to the Ikea Furniture Shop, where one can freely tie one's mule for five hours, dine on 75 pence vegetarian sausages, micturate, & thereafter lumber towards the ground 20 minutes away, & thereby avoid the inevitable corrupt & nawty behaviour at the station, as per two years ago.
The nice lady in the Charlton ticket office tells me that you can buy a ticket on the day.

Jumping in before Russ does, new manager bounce. Nailed on 5-0.

Seems... encouraging probably? Probably out for the weekend but maybe not too serious beyond that?

Well that's certainly a lot better than I was fearing. If not this week then surely next based on that comment.

I can't work out if by "the weekend being too soon" he means too soon for them to get the follow-up or just too soon for him to play.

Jumping in before Russ does, new manager bounce. Nailed on 5-0. In 1984 we played Charlton away as the first game under new Manager John Ryan. Is this an omen?

Nothing less than a win will do, given that Harris is taking over from statistically our greatest ever manager.

I can't work out if by "the weekend being too soon" he means too soon for them to get the follow-up or just too soon for him to play. I'm going for the latter. His interview style is interesting. I've probably got so used to Bonner's way of answering questions that I'll have to re-learn this all again. With Harris there's a tendency to say something than qualify it because he thinks it doesn't sit right. Or it wasn't quite what he meant to say. But to be fair to the guy he knows he's coming into a difficult managerial position, both in terms of Bonner's achievement and personality. He's acknowledged that several times and it sounds sincere. Before we even get into what happens on the pitch I think he's navigating the off pitch stuff really well.
