I guess it depends if a lack of a poppy means a lack of respect.
I choose not to wear a poppy, however, I fully appreciate and respect what people before me gave for me to be able to make that choice.

Not sure how printing a poppy on a shirt that only gets worn once is any more respectful than a minutes silence? It's not a competition who can be more respectful. Does having three (!) mascots standing for a minutes silence make Posh more respectful than us?

Four I think. Aside from the mixy rabbit and the other two I think they have an old dude in a hat.

I don't get the poppy thing, especially at football, in fact I think it's quite disrespectful to think football is that important in the first place. I guess it's because I'm not British, but then it wasn't a British thing until a good fifty years after the last World War!I did find it hard not to laugh at the mascots being solemn, which kind of proves my point. Unless it's for someone connected to the home club or the game as a whole,I don't think silences have any place in football at all; that stretches to putting things on shirts too. It's a game we love but it's ridiculous when we overstretch it's importance. I think it devalues the cause that is being remembered.

He's Mr Posh they have had the character for years. They used to have a Mrs/Miss Posh who was a lot younger as well but seem to have ditched that role now.

Yeah, since the 40's according to a very brief Google yesterday. I guess a dusty old bloke in a top hat is as precious to them as Coconuts is to us but to me it's comfortably the weirdest mascot in football.

Andrew Definitely wins the 'weirdest mascot in football' award. The only way it would be even weirder is if he started singing the P-O-S-H song from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang as he did his rounds.

I thought we wore Poppy armbands against Bracknell last week? That said, a lot of clubs print poppies on to first team shirts for ‘Rememberance Season’ and then auction them off afterwards with proceeds to the RBL. Perhaps we should do the same next year, and I think we’ve done this in the past too?
Yesterday morning, my sons grassroots team wore armbands and the opposing teams had the semi-permanent poppy stickers on their shirts which I imagine will leave marks when removed, but it was all very respectful and well done.

No...so apparently they used to have a mascot for 20 years called Lenny Berry, "a rotund city gent", but he had to quit the role after losing seven stone due to diabetes.

I guess it's because I'm not British, but then it wasn't a British thing until a good fifty years after the last World War!. Poppy’s have been sold since 1921 by the Royal British Legion, and I remember when I was in the cub scouts in the 1970’s marching in the parade on remembrance Sunday, and having to bring a poppy to pack meetings in early November, along with my handkerchief, 2p and 5p pieces for emergency phone calls.

It’s totally appropriate to have a remembrance ceremony before the game while everyone is gathered. However I do feel it’s only necessary to do it on the actual weekend of Remembrance Sunday. And it was especially appropriate yesterday being actual Armistice Day.
However some seasons we’ve done it three weekends running when we’ve had matches at different grounds. I know every club probably thinks they’ll be criticised if they don’t do one every year but can’t we just stick to the actual weekend?
On another note we seem to be having silences or applause pretty much every single game these days.
