Oxford have signed Goodwin from Cheltenham for up to £400k. Weakens Cheltenham because he's been really important to their turnaround in form since Clarke arrived, but a good chance to reinvest for them too.

Weakens Cheltenham because he's been really important to their turnaround in form since Clarke arrived, but a good chance to reinvest for them too. That is mental. He's had a good couple of months and scored six goals. 400k!? Cheltenham are going down anyway, they'll be laughing their way to the bank and that's a good chunk of next seasons budget sorted.

Not so sure Cheltenham are going down actually. Still more likely than not probably but if they can sustain anything like the form they've been on since Clarke came in they'll be safe fairly comfortably. Chances are they don't as keeping form up for more than half a season is a very tough thing to do, but at this point I actually think Shrewsbury are more likely to get relegated than Cheltenham are.

All quiet on the Eastern front.
I have a feeling this final week of the window, and the last few days of it in particular, is going to get pretty hectic for lots of teams.

It's certainly starting to feel a bit tense for us (and I'm sure other teams). Only one in so far, and another injury to contend with in the forward part of the pitch is not great news.

Other clubs are doing deals though. Stevenage have signed a left back today for instance. The BBC shows deals for EFL in the link below. I guess because we want forward players maybe its trickier because everyone is after them. NH interviews seem to suggest we are looking at more experienced players who are with clubs also rather than an untested loanee from higher up. The worry on missing targets is that when a Danny Hylton falls through as was alleged 2 January's ago you end up with a Laurent Tolaj instead. Worth nothing that Lee Gregory still hasn't gone anywhere in case we are in for him. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/transfers

I'm not particularly impressed at the pace our window is progressing but I'm confident of a few things -
1) that we're trying to make signings.
2) that we will make signings
3) that we'll leave January stronger than we entered it.
4), that i'll judge it properly when our window is over.
Oh, and 5) we've done well that our injuries and inaction in the market hasn't impacted form.
Not content with it at the moment though.

Other clubs are doing deals though. They are but this is definitely a quieter window in this league than last season's, and I don't think that's because everyone's happy with their squads, just the nature of it this time round. Which is why I think this next 7 days will probably get quite intense.

I've got my mind set on this Dom Jefferies signing now, so when he inevitably pops up somewhere else it'll 100% be Strangs fault and not the fault of unsubstantiated twitter rumours.

Here's how Harris describes Jeffries when he signed him for Gillingham - "He's an energetic box-to-box wholehearted aggressive footballer that we think has got a lot of potential to develop with us, and we look forward to seeing him"
We could benefit from that type of player I think. The pivot of Cousins and Digby is a bit deep at times for me and seems even deeper without Okedina breaking the lines on occasion. That sort of player could do well for us.

We could definitely do with a box-to-box central midfielder. Thomas has done a decent job of it in there but I'm not sure it's a position I'd look to play him in long term and, while I like May, I don't think he's anywhere near dynamic enough for a role like that.
Depends what we want to do with the formation in the longer term really.

Some Gillingham fans on twitter seem to think its a done deal but we shall see. Does seem logic in it but are we really paying fees for players now?

We paid fees for Lankester, Okedina & Ibsen Rossi.
Chances are he's out of contract in the summer so that presumably plays into it. Steal a march on any other interest in him, Gillingham get a better package than they would from a tribunal but we have a strong hand when it comes to fee.
