I feel for the fans and would happily donate some money to a supporters group or trust or something if there were buckets round the ground, but clapping for their club to show solidarity at a match they're not involved in is just... plain weird?

Indeed, almost as bizarre as that clap on your doorstep for NHS workers while they're probably still on shift and just gasping for a fag and a bit more competence from above.

It's a website not a bucket, but a Reading fan I know has just shared a crowdfunding link towards legal advice and further protests: www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/sell-before-we-dai-1#start

Genuine question but when the wage bill was nearly nearly 100% higher than their turnover in the Championship were they raising the alarm?
I’m not criticising them I’m genuinely interested, because that is clearly not sustainable and I know they are saying that’s part of their issue now
These owners should be held to account while they are doing this shite not when it has hit the fan.

They literally protested and got a game called off on Saturday.

They literally protested and got a game called off on Saturday. If they organised it, rather than it being an organic protest, then strange they haven’t even mentioned it.

I believe their wages were more than 100% of their turnover, but their wages were never 100% higher than their turnover were they? There will be more up to date figures, but a quick google from my phone brings up the figures here from 2021. Reading bad offenders, but "only" in the top 3rd of Championship clubs and not drastically different to Luton, who get plaudits for how their run: www.football365.com/news/opinion-footballs-wage-crisis-sits-in-the-championship-rather-than-the-premier-leagueEdit: Yes Reading really did get that bad apparently!

Sam Smith now wanting out according to reports, wonder where he’ll end up? Charlton are looking for a striker and seem to have been linked with every half decent one in league 1. If he wants out, they'd seem to be perfect for him. His Reading move seems a bit foolish, he couldn't have been ignorant to their troubles.

His agent ought to take some of the blame for it

His agent ought to take some of the blame for it I think players are far too reliant on their agents, not sure who Smith and Knibbs are with (probably the same agent?), but I'm sure he has some explaining to do. Of course, he will be smiling in the background, knowing he will get another fee for getting them out of Reading! (Should that happen!)

If you're Benoit Assou Ekotto and have no interest at all, then your agent should be doing a lot of heavy lifting. If you pretend you're a huge football fan then you should be seeing the basket case clubs a mile off

Did the clapping thing happen? Didn’t notice it on the radio.

Did the clapping thing happen? Didn’t notice it on the radio. No there was no clapping, either for Reading or the football.
