Brilliant result for sure but let’s not beat around the bush - we were absolutely 2nd best today and Barnsley could & should have scored a hatful. Some of the same issues on display from the last few weeks… repeatedly giving the ball away but thankful we were not punished today. Having Ahadme back is massive for us. With Taylor or Bonne up front the ball returns far too frequently but the Gasman is a big strong lad who holds the ball up well at this level. I’ve been a big fan of Mannion. It’s time he’s made our No.1 now. Massive game vs Wigan. Up the U’s! Poppycock. We certainly weren’t 2nd best. I don’t think it’s poppycock at all. Barnsley were the better team and created better chances. The stats support that. But thankfully being the better team and creating the better chances doesn’t guarantee the three points! Regardless of the outcome of yesterday’s game, it’s likely Barnsley were always going to control it and create more chances. We needed to be resilient and have a bit of luck. Yesterday we had both. We deserved the good fortune. Brophy, Ahadme and Jobe were excellent. Ahadme gave everyone a lift leading from the front like that. Warrior. The second half was excellent at times. We forced Barnsley back a bit and we were actually able control parts of the game which is something we haven’t been able to do for weeks. What a huge confidence boost for players and fans. We still need to have more about us in possession, but that’s been an issue for 3 seasons. It’s not sustainable spending 70% of the game off the ball. Today it worked, most weeks it doesn’t. Still on a high from yesterday. 4 or 6 points would be an incredible return from this weekend.

Today we had a bit of luck. It gave us something to defend. This was a bit like the Wycombe result last season.
Hopefully give us a bit of confidence which makes all the difference.
Mannion is far better
Jobe made big difference
Gas coming on was a game changer
Shame everyone else won.

We shouldn't worry about those around us, play like that for the rest of the season and we will get the points we need. Just think of how shocked Vale and Cheltenham fans would have been over our result. Couldn’t bear to watch. Just delighted, well done everyone. Can’t wait for Monday. This changes everything - we know we can win a football match. Yes - thinking from their perspective you've got to come away from a win thinking 'Oh Eff off, all that work to get a win and we're still in this position, what more can we do?'

I saw a viewpoint from a Barnsley fan who thought that Cambridge were well coached, had a clear game plan of being strong without the ball and attack on the break. He also thought that the big difference was that Cambridge were playing with more fight than Barnsley. Barnsley are a better than we are; however I was really pleased with thw positive aspects the Barnsley fan saw in us because they are characteristics we had lost in recent games.

Re the disallowed goal Rewatching back on Ifollow. Cousins blocks a defender in the centre of the goal and Digby has hold of no30 at the back post so fair enough to be disallowed. But we had 3 against their 2 so dreadful defending. Nonsense! Those antics are just part and parcel of corner taking. Along with blocking the keeper, yanking shirts and wrestling your man to the ground. If that had happened on the halfway line it never would have been blown up!

Barnsley played some lovely football but an awful lot of it lacked penetration(insert Kenneth Williams gif here). The move that lead to them hitting the post was excellent but it ended in an inexplicable miss.

They'd have seen our recent results and thought they could give us a hiding. Thought they were better for the first half hour or so, but put themselves in a harder position with the own goal and the longer we led, the more frustrated they got and confident we got. It's taken an awfully long time, but it looks like we've found a way to set up against the top teams. Thought it was also quite telling how good our set pieces were. For a team who won't have much of the ball, getting goals from corners or free kicks is super important and something we'd struggled to do so focusing on them made sense and looks like it could really pay off and be vital in getting those all important wins.

But we had 3 against their 2 so dreadful defending. Nah. Cousins' contact is so slight the man apparently being "blocked" can pirouette. Most corners you'll see five different groups doing worse than what Digby is here. Barnsley completely rubbish the bed and the ref gave them a get out of jail free card that they couldn't do anything with.

Having watched it a few times it's hard to say what it's for. We don't really complain as a team though. No surrounding the ref or protesting - not even from Taylor! That makes it look like someone was guilty of something. Can you imagine if that was against Stevenage - Evans & Raynor would combust and Piergianni would probably take the ref out!

They don't protest because Barnsley take the quick free kick - its professionalism not an admission of guilt. There was a lot of complaining the next time the ball went out.

Of course they are, that's why they are fourth in the table. On the day, yesterday, they weren't because they couldn't score and gifted us one. It's a simple game!

Suffice to say the Monk’s prayers were answered by the book of Job(e) on Good Friday. And they say there is no God!
Thank you Father for keeping us on the straight and narrow whilst our faith in the mighty Us has been properly tested once again.
I trust the Abbey will be bursting on Monday as we celebrate the resurrection!

Of course, for those of us who have been here a while, the only true God was Dion…
Thinking back to yesterday, as annoyed as I was that Ryan’s ‘goal’ was disallowed (and we really couldn’t see why from high up in the away end), I do wonder if it helped us to go on and win the game. The players were clearly rattled by it, but in a most un-Cambridge way given the issues of the past few weeks we seemed to channel that irritation and use it positively. We got better and better as the game went on and frankly the ref could have blown for full time as soon as Gas’s header hit the net - there was no way back for Barnsley at that point and we should have added more to the score.
A 2-0 lead at half time would have probably seen a very different start to the second half.
