Some poor runs in Non-League -
From August 2005 we went 5 games without scoring a goal before a 5-3 defeat at Grays.
Ebbsfleet 0-0 Cambridge Utd 0-2 Kiddy York City 1-0 Utd Exeter C 4-0 Utd Utd 0-2 Woking Grays 5-3 United
From the 5th December 2009 we didn’t win a game for 3 calendar months & took 4 points from a possible 27.
Eastbourne 2-2 CUFC CUFC 1-3 Stevenage Mansfield 2-1 CUFC Stevenage 4-1 CUFC United 0-1 Eastbourne B United 0-1 York C Crawley 1-0 Utd Utd 2-2 Wimbledon FGR 1-1 CUFC United 1-1 Oxford
*That* Histon game was followed by a run of 6 consecutive defeats over a less than happy Xmas & New Year 2006/07
Histon 5-0 United United 0-1 Rushden United 1-2 Burton Kiddy 1-0 United United 0-1 Stafford Stevenage 4-1 United Rushden 3-1 United
& finally a quirky 14 days in February 2013 that saw us ship 3 goals in 4 consecutive defeats.
Kiddy 3-2 CUFC Utd 0-3 Alfreton Mansfield 3-1 Utd Utd 1-3 Hereford

Barnsley (and Derby) do both seem to have some wildly unpredictable results in them – lord knows we could do with being on the right end of one this time.

2 points or more from Easter weekend would be a good return.
0 would be panic o’clock.

I want our kick off to be like Austria’s against Slovakia at the weekend. No passing back to Stevens to hoof it up to nobody/into touch, just dribble forwards and score within 7 seconds. It’s what Barnsley will be least expecting.

It’s what Barnsley will be least expecting. It is a very minor thing but it would be nice to see us do something different from kick-off every now and again. Lord knows we've had enough opportunities over the past few games to try.

Barnsley are the best team I have seen at the Abbey this season, couple that with a terrible record against them over the last two seasons, I have almost no hope of getting anything from this game. The only slight ray of hope is that they aren’t in great form themselves (1 win in the last 4) however the 2 week break might help them just as much as hopefully it will help us.
This game is all about a reaction from Lincoln/Reading for me, we need some sort of change from two terrible performances. Monk will have had 2 weeks of training with most of the squad and will have been in the job for long enough to get some of his ideas across. The Wigan game is more important (being one of the few home games remaining) but this feels like a litmus test for the squads desire to stay up. If we are to lose at least make sure that they have earned the points unlike reading/lincoln who we rolled over for and showed zero fight.
I would like to see a change to a 3-5-2 (having seen Cheltenham getting a point against Barnsley from using this formation), Taylor has looked far too isolated up front since his return. We need to get some pace in the back line as it’s clear that’s affecting our play. I would be happy with a midfield 3 of Digby May and Lankester however I can’t see monk dropping cousins. This team/squad has got 12 clean sheets this season so they are capable of defending despite the evidence in the last two games. In the home game they controlled the midfield and worked the ball nicely so we need to try and counter that if we want anything from this one. Would be more than happy with a Turgid 0-0.

I am very much Not Optimistic for the game on Friday. I know "free hits" aren't real when you're fighting for your lives but for me I'd just like to see a half decent performance with a bit of fight we can then hopefully build on in the much more winnable game at home vs Wigan on Monday.
To be honest the expectations are so low at the moment after the last few games just a goal would be good!
I'd also, as others have mentioned, get Okedina in. We simply have to start playing a bit further up the field when we have the ball to try and pin teams in a bit and having a CB with pace is important for that even if he has a shocker in the locker. The other main changes I'd be looking at is starting Kaikai who remains our most talented player and dropping Taylor who hasn't looked like he gives a rubbish for about a month.

When I think about some of our "great escapes" of the past, on each occasion we have managed to pull a win from games we were nailed on to lose.
The most recent example is obviously Dunking P*sh last March. That win kept us up.
Thinking back well over 20 years to Beck MkII, there was the day we took a highly unexpected 2-0 half time lead at what was then called the Britannia Stadium, only to see it completely wiped out before the hour mark. Then hanging on for a point, debut boy Marcus Richardson scuffs one into the net in stoppage time and we all went mental. We stayed up.
I keep telling myself that football is a crazy game. 11 v 11. My head says there isn't a hope in hell we can anything from Friday. But my heart is saying we must. We just must. Keep believing.
But if we get thrashed, he's got to go.

It will be a miracle of it's still 0-0 after 30 minutes.

It’s what Barnsley will be least expecting. If Stevens starts along with Rennett then Monk's learnt little from the 2 previous thumpings. Weve got to try and get some pace and energy into this team. Would take a point now but not expecting anything. Wigan is the game we have got to try and somehow win.

Expecting a loss, anything more is a bonus. Cheltenham have shown a result there is possible. I'm not too worried if we do lose, but the manner in which it happens is the key. If we follow the last two games of going a goal behind and capitulating, we may as well get the League Two banners out. If we show some fight, stay in the game and lose by a goal or two against the better team, we have something to work with.

Wonder how fit Gassan and Fejiri will be after having had the chance for a bit more training?
If Gassan is anywhere near fit enough, I'd like to see him start. He provides much more of a focal/hold-up point than anyone else in the squad. Him and Kachunga seemed to be in the early signs of developing something before he got crocked too.

Fair chance Gassan will start I would think, hopefully alongside Taylor. Although knowing our luck he will come back from his international camp with an injury!
